Subordinate to Roskomnadzor, the main radio frequency center (GRCHTs) is preparing to launch a new AI system "Oculus" to search for illegal images and videos on the Internet. About it informs Kommersant, which discovered a tender dated September 15 for the development of terms of reference for this system on the public procurement website.
It is planned to complete the work by December 17, 2021, and the system will be launched in 2022. With its help, the department will be able to quickly identify the distribution of extremist materials and pornography, drug propaganda, calls for riots and suicide. Now the search for violations on photo and video materials is carried out manually.
Representatives of Lanit, Russia's largest group of IT companies, in an interview with Kommersant noted that due to the need to filter all content through the new AI system, the speed of access to the Internet will significantly decrease, and the maintenance of the "Oculus" alone will cost tens of millions of rubles. year. Its implementation will cost billions of rubles.
Kommersant also notes that the Oculus brand belongs to Facebook - the company's VR helmets are released under it. The company has already applied for the Oculus trademark - and it was approved in March 2021. However, Facebook can only ban computer programs and information services under this name if they will be provided for commercial use - and the HRChTS does not apply to persons engaged in commercial activity.
