Samsung has unveiled a new 13-inch OLED display that turns regular 2D video into 3D. The screen can stretch in three directions, adjusting to the displayed content. In the Samsung Display demo, the curved panel stretches outward to simulate the motion of a bubbling lava flow.
According to Changhee Lee, executive vice president of Samsung Display, the company plans to use this technology in its future products, including mobile devices. writes AndroidCentral citing ETNews. Also, this technology can be useful for creating large LED video boards, advertising panels and digital waterfalls.
Stretchable display is considered the most difficult technology to implement. According to Changhee Lee, in the past, the degree of deformation of stretchable OLED panels was only about five percent. However, now this indicator has increased significantly and made it possible to realize much more different effects.
So far Samsung has not specified when such displays may go on sale, but they are unlikely to appear on the market any time soon.
