It is almost 50 times cheaper than the Spot robot, but it will be extremely difficult to buy it.
Xiaomi showed his first four-legged robop, which was named CyberDog. It is an experimental open source machine that the company says has "unpredictable capabilities."
Externally, CyberDog is similar to the Spot robot from Boston Dynamics - graceful and futuristic, reminiscent of the stories "Black mirror».
The robot received Xiaomi proprietary servos that allow it to run at a trot, overcome various obstacles, including steps, and also do back flips. It can move at a speed of 3.2 m / s with a dead weight of 3 kg (for Spot - 3.9 m / s with a weight of 5.2 kg).
CyberDog is powered by the Nvidia Jetson Xavier AI platform and is equipped with a variety of cameras and sensors. These include proximity sensors, GPS module, ultra wide angle fisheye lens and Intel RealSense D450 depth camera. These components allow the robot to orient itself in space in a semi-autonomous mode.
It can analyze its surroundings in real time, create navigation maps, recognize people by faces and voices, determine destination and avoid obstacles in the way. It can be controlled using voice commands or via a smartphone app.
The robot has three USB-C ports and one HDMI, which Xiaomi says can be used to configure hardware. The company offers to connect lidar sensors, panoramic cameras and floodlights with their help.
The Boston Dynamics Spot went on sale last year for $ 74,500 (≈5,510,000 rubles) and has found wide application: from examining hazardous mines to helping doctors in remote communication with patients. It has also been tested by law enforcement and even the military, but not as a weapon.
CyberDog will cost only 9,999 yuan (≈114,000 rubles), which is almost 50 times cheaper. True, Xiaomi will release only 1,000 units for the "brand aficionados, engineers and robotics enthusiasts" so far. The company hopes that these first customers will contribute to the development of four-legged robots and help determine the vector of their further use.
