YouTube Launches New Premium Lite Subscription
Miscellaneous / / August 02, 2021
So far, only in a few countries.
YouTube Tests New Subscription in Belgium, Denmark, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Finland and Sweden Premium Lite. This version allows you to watch YouTube without ads, but does not include the other benefits of the standard Premium membership. In particular, the bundle does not include a subscription to YouTube Music, the ability to play in the background and download videos to the device.
In these countries, a new subscription costs € 6.99 per month (or the local currency equivalent), while the standard Premium costs € 11.99. For comparison, in Russia a full individual subscription costs 199 rubles per month.
Nevertheless, the offer can hardly be called profitable: for 60% of the cost of a standard subscription, you get only a quarter of the functions, which does not sound very fair. YouTube claims that depending on user response, there may be more plans with different benefits in the future.
