Life hack: how to make a picnic more environmentally friendly
Miscellaneous / / July 31, 2021
Summer is the time for field trips and barbecues. But often, after a picnic, there is a mountain of disposable plastic dishes, bags and napkins. Here's how to reduce waste.
Reusable dishes instead of disposable ones. Ask each guest to bring a plate, cup, and fork from home. You can even offer "penalty" tests for those who decide to break this rule - for example, to ride across the entire clearing on one leg. And in order to use disposable plastic dishes, you definitely didn't have to, bring spare reusable kits.
Scraps of fabric instead of plastic bags. Take a large scarf or piece of chintz, put your picnic items in it, and tie the corners in a makeshift pen. Then you can lay the fabric as a tablecloth, make an awning or dressing area out of it.
Burying instead of discarding. Take a small shovel with you, because it is perfectly acceptable to bury fruit and vegetable rinds, bread crumbs and other food waste in the forest. It is advisable to dig a hole at least 0.5 m deep so that the animals do not dig it. Fill the buried waste with water - so organic matter will not go to the landfill, but will become fertilizer for the soil.
Stylish party instead of the usual barbecue. Perhaps not all picnic participants are interested in the topic of eco-awareness. You can captivate your friends if you organize a picnic in a certain style - with an emphasis on eco-themes. For example, you will have a forest party "like in childhood": with homemade compotes in glass jars instead of soda in plastic and cutlets with mashed potatoes in a thermos instead of purchased food in plastic containers.
You don't need to change your habits to live more environmentally. By subscribing to Instagram account of the "League of Zero Waste" project, you will always be aware of important economic news. It regularly publishes advice on sustainable consumption, healthy lifestyles and eco-awareness.
Zero Waste League was created at the initiative of Danone. It includes representatives of big business and non-profit organizations. The main goal of the project is to reduce the amount of waste in everyday life.
