How to add a program to Windows 10 startup
Miscellaneous / / May 29, 2021
There are at least four different ways. Choose any.
1. Through settings
The easiest way is to enable startup via software settings. As a rule, such a function is available in all programs that are often used and may be needed immediately after turning on the computer.
To activate autoloading, open the built-in settings through the "Options" menu or by clicking on the gear button. Find the item "Load at system startup", "Start at login" or something similar. Check it and click Apply.
2. Through the autorun folder
The classic method, which is useful in cases when there is no autoload option in the program settings. It's almost as easy to do this through the standard autorun folder.
Press the Win + R keyboard shortcut, enter shell: startup and click OK.
Place the shortcut of the desired application in the opened folder.
To find a shortcut, open the "Start" menu, right-click on the icon of the desired program, and then select "Advanced" → "Go to file location". Copy the program shortcut and paste it into the autorun folder.
3. Through the "Task Scheduler"
If the previous option did not work, you can use the built-in Windows Task Scheduler tool. It allows you to automate various actions, including launching programs according to specified parameters.
Go to Control Panel → System and Security → Administrative Tools and launch Task Scheduler. You can use search instead.
Click on "Create a simple task", give a name and click on "Next".
Specify the option "When you log on to Windows" and click "Next" again.
Select "Run this program" and click "Next".
Click "Browse" and specify the path to the exe-file of the required program.
Check the entered data and click "Finish".
4. Through the "Registry Editor"
The Registry Editor tool is designed to change settings for your computer, Windows, and installed applications. It also allows you to control autostart without any problems.
Open the "Registry Editor" through the search or press the combination Win + R and enter regedit.
Select HKEY_CURRENT_USER in the sidebar to add the program to startup for current user, or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - to add it for everyone. Right click on the main window and click New → String Parameter. Give it a name.
Double click by the created line and paste in the "Value" field the path to the executable exe-file of the program that you want to add to autorun. Click OK.
If you do not know the path to the file, find the program in the Start menu, right-click by its icon, select "Advanced" → "Go to to the file location ". Click the same button again by application shortcut and select "Properties". In the window that opens, in the "Object" field, you can copy the full path.
