No test strips or blood sampling.
Apple's next generation smartwatch, slated for 2022, could get a blood glucose meter. About it informs Telegraph.
This innovation can make life much easier for all users with diabetes. Based on the data from the watch, they will be able to determine the dosage of insulin without special glucometers, usually using blood and test strips.
According to the Telegraph report, Apple is the largest customer of Rockley Photonics, which develops special sensors for measuring blood sugar levels. They are supposed to allow certain signals to be read by transmitting infrared light through the skin of the wrist from the back of the accessory.
It is rumored that in the future, Rockley Photonics may implement sensors for measuring blood alcohol levels and blood pressure, but so far the American tech giant has not confirmed such development.
At the moment, Apple watches already offer the functions of measuring the level of oxygen in the blood (SpO2) and ECG monitoring. The introduction of the blood glucose meter could give a serious boost to the sales of the already most popular smartwatches in the world.
