"Google Photos" learned to identify photo documents
Miscellaneous / / April 20, 2021
So far, only on Android.
Many Google services rely on artificial intelligence, and now a smart new feature has appeared in the Android client of the proprietary photo and video storage service.
Google Photos previously offered three categories that would contain photos automatically sorted by content type: People, Places, and Things. Now, for some users, a fourth has been added to them: "Documents". It is easy to guess that it contains photographs of papers (both printed and handwritten), business cards, announcements and screenshots with text.
So far, not everything is working perfectly, but gradually the algorithm should improve and sort the files more accurately. The feature is rolling out gradually and should appear on all Android smartphones in the near future. It is not yet known when it will be added to the iOS version of the application.
