Macs with M1 still need a memory upgrade
Miscellaneous / / April 06, 2021
Enthusiasts from China were able to increase the amount of memory on a MacBook with an Apple M1 processor: it seems that integrated chips are still upgradeable, despite the doubts of many.
Specifically, engineers from Guangzhou were able to successfully separate the RAM and SSD modules from the M1 chip and replace them with modules with a larger capacity. After that, macOS Big Sur successfully recognized the new memory and the laptop did not turn into a brick.
As proof, the authors published photos of the MacBook Air with 8/256 GB of memory, which they pumped over up to 16 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD - while the maximum official modification is the 16/512 version GB.
Earlier it was believed that the release of its own chips was the final step of Apple in the fight against an unofficial upgrade. This example proved the opposite, however, we strongly advise against repeating this with your own technique without the necessary skills and proper experience.
