On April 5, South Korean LG announced the closure of its mobile division. The decision was approved by the company's board of directors. About it it says on the official site.
The manufacturer writes that a strategic decision to exit the highly competitive mobile phone sector will allow the company to focus its resources elsewhere. areas: the production of components for electric vehicles, the development of smart home devices, robotics, the field of artificial intelligence, as well as service products.
All current LG smartphones will continue to be available for sale. The manufacturer will provide service support and software updates for customers of existing mobile products for a certain period of time (depending on the region).
The mobile phone business is expected to be completed by July 31st.
Recall that rumors about the closure of the mobile division appeared last month. Then one of the Korean editions wrotethat LG has not been able to cope with competition in the smartphone market for a long time and constantly incurs huge losses. It was assumed that the division could be sold to another company, but, apparently, no buyer has been found.
