At the WWDC 2020 online presentation, Apple unveiled a new version of its operating system for computers - macOS 10.16, codenamed Big Sur. It offers the first major design update since Mac OS X.
All base apps now have their own color scheme and better navigation with a redesigned sidebar.
The Notification Center has appeared in the style of iOS - with its help you can easily switch between theme colors, adjust the sound and screen brightness without physical buttons, turn on Bluetooth and AirDrop. All important functions, previously scattered throughout the system, are now in one place and always at hand.
The sizes of widgets in the Today panel are now customizable, just like on iOS.
Messages on Mac is a direct extension of the iOS app, providing a more comfortable and unified experience. Now it is possible to create and use Memoji in correspondence, icons for selecting photos and other files from a computer now correspond to the design of this function on smartphones.
Safari also received a lot of changes. It now runs "50% faster than Chrome," according to Apple. It has become more secure and transparent - now it is enough to press one button to see how many trackers the browser has protected you from.
Tabs will now become much easier to manage: they will shrink in size without overlapping each other. To see the name, just place the cursor on one of the tabs.
When is the release?
The first public beta of macOS Big Sur will be available to everyone in July, the final version will be released in the fall.
