Sleep tracker, parental controls, a new watch face and more.
9to5Mac Edition shared many details about the new generation of Apple watches and watchOS 7, which should debut this fall along with the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. The information was obtained from the source code of an early iOS 14 build leaked to the network.
Sleep tracker
Apple Watch 6 will be able to track sleep quality - a feature that has been under development for a long time. Last October on the Web leaked the official screenshot of the Sleep application, which will store your data and settings for the desired mode. The watch is expected to provide guidance to help you go to bed and get up on time.
Clock face
- Now you can share your screensaver with other users (at least through the Apple Watch app on the iPhone - it's unclear whether it will be possible to transfer files from watch to watch).
- A new version - "Infograph Pro" will be added to the existing "Infograph" and "Infograph modular" dials. Its main feature will be the tachymeter (it determines the speed and is often used in analog watches).
- You will be able to create your own watch faces based on photos from shared albums. Now screensavers can only be made from individual pictures or albums that are on your smartphone. The new feature will allow you to keep track of what is on the screen saver of your child's watch.
Apple Watch for kids
- Apple is actively working to give parents more control over their children's watches. While iPhones can still be synced to multiple Apple Watches, multiple devices cannot be used at the same time. In watchOS 7, parents will be able to link to one smartphone and simultaneously use both their own and children's watches. This method also offers parental controls with the ability to customize restrictions on apps, contacts and entertainment.
- A new feature called School Time will allow parents to customize which apps and extensions their child will have access to when they are at school.
Application architecture
An important change that you won't see but will feel is the new application architecture. Although Apple Watch can now install apps from the native store, bypassing the iPhone, apps still use the old extension architecture. The new system is expected to improve the speed of programs on Apple Watch.
