IN interview for Forbes, dedicated to the series “Raised by wolves", Ridley Scott also gave a little attention to the famous Alien franchise. In particular, the director confirmed that he was working on a new part, but faced a significant difficulty - it is quite expected that we are talking about the reaction of viewers and critics to the film "Alien: Covenant». Here is an excerpt from the interview:
Work [on the film] in progress. We have already tried to reinvent the wheel with "Prometheus" and "Testament". Will we return to this story? Unlikely, because Prometheus has already completed its task. Now we are asking more fundamental questions: “Maybe the Alien, face-hijackers and brutes have already outlived their usefulness? Do we need to rethink the franchise so that only the title is in common with the old films? "
Although originally "Prometheus" was conceived as the first part of the prequel series and at the end of "Testament" there was an obvious a hint of a sequel, due to the failure of the film at the box office, the franchise may go in a completely different direction. Which one? Judging from the interviews, the creators are not yet sure themselves.
In May 2019 Variety already reportedthat the film is at the stage of script creation - but, apparently, the last 1.5 years the project has not been actively developed. Probably, you should not expect a continuation in the near future: while the creators are still thinking about the concept film, Scott is busy working on two films at once, the release of which is scheduled for 2021: "The Last Duel" and Gucci.
