Although the universes of the Alien and Predator franchises were considered very similar even during the release of the first films, officially the heroes were confronted only by "Alien vs. Predator" - a dilogy that many fans consider not canonical and simply unsuccessful.
In the new release On the AvPGalaxy podcast, the hosts interviewed Alex Litvak, the 2010 Predator screenwriter. He talked about plans for a sequel, which was actively worked out, but in the end went to the table. According to Litvak, the second "Predators" officially linked the films to "Aliens." In the sequel finale, Royce and Isabelle gather a group of survivors and capture the Predator transport ship. After breaking through many enemies and gaining control of the ship, they return to Earth. They are greeted by the Colonial Marines: it turns out that the movie was set in the future.
Sounds very odd considering the time difference between Predator 2 and the entire Alien franchise, but here's how it was explained:
Finally, we return to Earth in victory, land and it turns out that the action takes place in the future! All this time, we thought the action was taking place in present time [after the events of Predator 2], but what if these guys spent 300 years in the ice? The ship's hatch opens and the colonial marines walk in - this is how the two worlds formally unite.
It is obvious that in "Prometheus" and "Predator"(2018) these franchises went their separate ways. Still, it is interesting to know that the merging of universes has practically happened - but perhaps these series are better off continuing to exist separately. What do you think about this: are crossovers cool, or better not? Let us know in the comments!
