Caution! Below are some serious spoilers for Season 1! If you are just going to watch it, explore our compilation great series about women, but not only for them.
The action takes place behind the scenes of the fictional television station UBA. The host of America's premier morning show, Mitch Kessler (Steve Carell), is accused of sexual harassment and immediately fired. His permanent partner Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) in horror: after all, she cannot imagine her life without television. Meanwhile, the entire editorial office is wondering who leaked the dirt on Mitch to The New York Times.
The new channel manager, Corey Allison (Billy Crudup), decides to take advantage of the situation and shake up the show, which is experiencing serious stagnation. Therefore, she plans to replace Alex with a younger presenter. For this role, according to Corey, the eccentric and unpredictable journalist Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) is ideally suited, who aims to get to the bottom of the truth at any cost.
Alex realizes that she is extremely vulnerable: even her great authority will no longer help her to stay in the chair of the leader. In an attempt to defend her place in the sun, she decides to take a desperate step and during public speaking declares that he is taking Bradley as a co-host. For Bradley herself, as well as for the company's management, this is a complete surprise, only now it is too late to retreat.
Meanwhile, disgraced and removed from the air, Mitch does not understand at all why he got it. After all, he just flirted with the younger employees of the channel, sometimes slept with them, but he certainly did not rape anyone.
One of the affected girls, Ashley Brown (Ana O'Reilly), is invited to tell her story on a rival channel's show. The management of UBA orders to urgently seize the initiative. The interview is entrusted to the new Bradley, but in the end, the prosecutor talks about the relationship with the disgraced presenter more than the producers expected. According to her, on the channel there was such toxic atmospherethat it was unthinkable to refuse Mitch.
Mitch is going to come to the channel and also give Bradley an interview to tell his story. He has a witness ready to confirm that UBA President Fred Miklen (Tom Irwin) was aware of Kessler's inappropriate behavior and covered up his presenter in every possible way.
The witness is Hannah Schoenfeld (Gugu Mbata-Row), senior agent of the Morning Show. On condition of anonymity, she agrees to tell how she once complained about Mitch to the president, and he, instead of taking action, promoted her in office, thereby buying silence.
Bradley learns from Hannah her version, which turns out to be much darker than Mitch imagined. The girl was just hired by UBA, she was not quite comfortable in the new city, she was very lonely. When Kessler called her into the room to watch a movie, Hannah did not think that it could end badly, because she perceived the host as a friend and mentor, and he practically raped her. Now she can not remember everything that happened without self-loathing.
Alex is categorically opposed to Bradley interviewing Mitch, because this will be followed by the exposure of Fred, and Levy herself can simply be fired after him. The presenter even threatens Mitch, promising to tell everyone how she once woke up in his house and did not remember anything about what happened last night. Who knows, maybe Kessler will added something?
UBA Morning Show Executive Producer Chip (Marc Duplass) learns that Alex plans to get rid of him as part of an agreement with Fred, after which he decides to help Bradley and Corey with the organization of interviews Mitch.
The conspirators are going to secretly escort him to the studio for Mitch to tell the truth. But the plan is not working. Employees learn the shocking news: unhappy Hannah died in her apartment from an overdose.
Chip severely beats Kessler and Alex confesses that he told The New York Times about Mitch, because he did everything for her sake and did not want her to be fired.
After that, Alex and Bradley on the air accused UBA and Fred Miklen personally of creating a toxic corporate environment and harboring sex crimes. Bradley encourages viewers to speak up, and then the broadcast is interrupted.
