Where to stay
Apartments in the center and outside of it are not cheap: apartments for a day are rented for an average of 2,000 rubles. You can find cheaper options through Airbnb: apartment in the area of the embankment here you can snatch for 1,400 rubles per night excluding fees, a pleasant odnushku in a residential area - for 1 600 rubles.
There are also more budget options: for example, a bed in a hostel Yo! on the local Arbat, Leningradskaya street, costs from 500 rubles per night. However, we do not recommend choosing a place of residence, focusing only on a pedestrian: there is absolutely nothing to do on it. The same 500 rubles will cost accommodation in a shared room in "Mishke». Hostel Time, located six kilometers from the center, will ask for a night from 400 rubles.
If your plans for the Samara weekend do not include savings, then you should take a closer look at proven chain hotels like
Renaissance and Ibis. They are located side by side on Novo-Sadovaya Street, a little further from the historical center, and were previously considered local "premium" - a room for one here will cost between 2,900 and 2,430 rubles per day respectively.A hotel was rebuilt for the World Cup in Samara Lotte - a huge palace, which does not fit into the surrounding reality, but amazes with its appearance and scale. For a night here you will have to pay from 5,500 to 250,000 rubles. More hotel options - boutique hotel 7terrass on the very bank of the Volga (from 4,000 rubles), "Count Orlov"On Kuibyshev street (from 4,500 rubles) and Holiday Inn in the very center of Samara (from 4,400 rubles), which is praised even by the locals - at least for its architectural design.
The stop-list includes the Oktyabrskaya hotel at the bus station, which Elena Letuchaya appreciatedRevizorro in the city of Samara - Hotel "Oktyabrskaya" 0 out of 5, and Bristol Zhiguli. The latter lures tourists not with the quality of service, but with the story of how Fedor Chaliapin spent the night and sang from the balcony here. Let's remind: it was a long time ago.
What sights of Samara to see
Embankment
Address: Volzhsky pr., St. Maxim Gorky.
The Samara embankment is the longest among the embankments of all Volga cities: it stretches for more than four kilometers. Comfortable city beaches stretch almost as much. Along the entire length of the embankment, monuments to the founder of Samara, Prince Grigory Zasekin, a bather, a diver and comrade Sukhov from the White Sun of the Desert, who are rubbed for good luck, are chaotically stuck. Also everywhere there are restaurants, shops with smoothies, hot corn and fried ice cream, trampolines and employees of shooting galleries shouting "Let's go play", for which the Samara residents have developed immunity.
The embankment is divided into "new" and "old" parts. On the first one there is a snow-white stele in the form of a boat, on the second - the berths, beloved by the townspeople, where cruise three-decks arrive and from where the Omsk leave to the other bank of the Volga. It seems that half of the clips of the Samara musicians were filmed here.
Strukovsky garden
The oldest park in Samara. Next to it is a brewery, below it is the beginning of the "old" embankment, above it, on a hill, is the local drama theater and the famous Pushkin Square in the city. Two years ago, "Strukachi" underwent reconstruction: the old fountain "Grotto" was restored here and renovated the pavilion of the local chess club, and most importantly - rebuilt the first concrete skate park.
The townspeople are especially fond of the renovated garden with a pergola with a swing. The swing is functional, but officially decorative. Therefore, we do not recommend actively swinging on them, you never know what.
Glory Square
At the end of the 2000s, the square in front of the government building was considered a habitat for skaters and fans of looking at the river from the slope. But in the mid-2010s, it was paved with ubiquitous tiles, and the panorama was almost ditched: the so-called Wailing Wall - the memorial "Pride, Honor and Glory of the Samara Region", which blocked the view of Volga.
After long discussions, the observation deck was finalized, and the slope itself was repaired for the World Cup. It turned out pretty shovel, but an amphitheater and a dry fountain appeared here - it does not have a bowl where water accumulates. It all looks especially impressive in the evening. One thing remains unchanged - the steel monument of Glory towering on the square. This is a 13-meter figure of a worker, whom the locals call Panikovsky in their own way.
Stalin's bunker
Address: st. Frunze, d. 167.
During the war years Samara (at that time Kuibyshev) became a "spare capital"RAS confirmed the right of Samara to claim the title of "City of Labor Valor" countries: the government of the USSR, the diplomatic corps and the Bolshoi Theater were evacuated here, and in 1942 a spare shelter was built here for the first persons of the state.
Depth "Stalin's bunker"- 37 meters, for clarity it is usually compared with a twelve-story building. At the very bottom of the bunker there is a meeting room, as well as a rest room intended for Stalin: in it - a heavy table with green cloth, wood paneling on the walls and an atmosphere of increased anxiety. Above is an exposition dedicated to the life of Kuibyshev and the work of defense enterprises of that time.
The dungeon was declassified in 1990, but still not every local resident knows where it is. However, not without reason: Samara residents love to go down into the caves beyond the Volga River much more than into totalitarian concrete burrows.
You can find out more details and sign up for an excursion on weekdays by calling +7 (846) 333-35-71. On weekends, you can get to the bunker with the agency "Art excursions"- individually or with a group.
Bar "At the bottom"
Address: Volzhsky pr., D. 4.
In Samara, there is only talk about beer. All the fault is the local brewery, builtHomeland of Zhiguli beer in 1881 by the Austrian citizen Alfred von Wakano, and the lager "Zhigulevskoe", which is produced here. Moreover, it is imperative to taste the national heritage in the bar "At the bottom" - a place where football fans and respectable gentlemen in jackets fraternize.
By the time of the World Cup, Bottom had turned from an authentic eatery into a two-story mansion - with a mug of "Zhiguli" and a dark "Fon Wakano" for 100 rubles, just one women's toilet, but still the same Samara spirit. A reminder in case of important negotiations: "The bottom is one", even if the atmosphere of a simple bar is not to your taste. As a last resort, local beer can always be taken away from the trough around the corner.
Art Museum
Address: st. Kuibyshev, d. 92.
The museum building itself is a luxurious building in the neoclassical style with columns, gold leaf on the facade and "palace" interiors inside. The collection of the museum includes more than 35,000 exhibits, including works by Aivazovsky, Repin, Shishkin, Kuindzhi, Levitan, Malevich, as well as a half-length portrait of the mayor Pyotr Alabin and works Samara artist Valentin Purygin, who officially painted the Volga landscapes, and unofficially - phantasmagoric paintings in which the city was filled with goblin, mermaids and mythical creatures with horns.
You can follow the schedule and working conditions of the museum in group in the social network "VKontakte" or on website.
Museum "Space Samara"
Address: ave. Lenin, d. 21.
Samara is also space. We do not urge you to go to the Progress plant, but the museum on Lenin Avenue is an obligatory item in all tourist guidebooks and extracurricular programs of Samara schoolchildren. It is not surprising: the facade of the museum building is decorated with a genuine Soyuz launch vehicle, which was built on the same Progress (however, it has never been in space). Among the exhibits of the museum are photographic observation devices, rocket engines, a spacesuit belonging to the hero of Russia Yuri Lonchakov, which "flew" for more than 200 days, and even tubes with space food.
You can follow the updates in the museum's opening hours at website or in social networks.
Polish church
Address: st. Frunze, d. 157.
The coming of the Sacred Heart of Jesus sounds as stunning as it looks. The construction of a Polish church in Samara completedBrief outline in 1906. It shared with other churches all the hardships of the Soviet era, in 1991 it was transferred to the Catholic community, and in 2017 it was restored.Polish Church to open in Samara after restoration to the mundial.
The temple is made in the neo-Gothic style: it is built in the shape of a cross, its facade is decorated with pinnacles, and the windows are stained-glass. The church is open for individual visits, it is often arranged here organ concerts. True, the local authority is electronic. You can listen to a mechanical instrument in the church on Kuibyshev Street, the schedule of performances is published here.
Museum of Art Nouveau
Address: st. Frunze, d. 159.
Samara is the modest capital of Russian Art Nouveau. In the city meetsHow the Samara monuments of history and culture were protected half a century ago many buildings representing this style, the main of which is the Kurlina mansion, builtAbout the museum in 1903.
The house at different times housed the White Czech counterintelligence, a kindergarten and the Swedish embassy, and in 2012 the Museum of Art Nouveau was opened here. You can start the excursion already on the street - from the gate in the form of an openwork butterfly and a wrought-iron dragonfly on the roof. Inside there are 22 rooms with stucco moldings and floral designs on the ceiling. The main exposition is located on the first floor of the mansion: special attention is paid to the study, dining room and boudoir of Kurlina herself, whose window is decorated with a stained glass window in the form of a tree crown.
Imported exhibitions are held on the second floor and in the basement, including the work of taxidermists from the friendly Alabin Museum of Local Lore. And on the territory of the Kurlina estate there is a cozy courtyard with swing chairs, sun loungers and the White Cup coffee shop - one of the best in the city.

Where else to go in Samara
Eldar Ryazanov Museum
Address: st. Frunze, d. 120.
It was opened only two years ago - in the house where the great director was born and spent the first month and a half of his life. The room was rebuilt to resemble a communal apartment and divided into three themed rooms. Importantly, this is not just a memorial, but a modern and truly interactive museum.
Inside you can see the writing table, at which Ryazanov did his homework, when he again found himself here during the years of evacuation, overheard the telephone conversation of the heroes of "Service novel ", consider the costumes and props from the filming, as well as learn more about the military Kuibyshev: in the hall dedicated to this time, you can listen to the audio recollections of residents rear. Also, pay attention to the park right next to the museum - not the way it was intended. What will be the square and the monument to Eldar Ryazanov in Samara initially, but still unusually cute.
All news, as well as online lectures of the museum are published on the page in the social network "In contact with».
Gallery "Victoria"
Address: st. Nekrasovskaya, d. 2.

Streets with wooden houses
View this post on Instagram
Publication from TomSawyerfest (@tomsawyerfest)
It was in Samara that "Tom Sawyer Fest"- a festival where volunteers restore wooden houses all over Russia.
Dilapidated huts in the historic center of the city are kindly called "rotten": most of them squints, bends and repels due to lack of sewage, but some houses still try to rescue. Guests of the city are invited to walk around the restored "postcard" quarter on Leninskaya Street or admire platbands of houses that were resurrected at the same "Tom Sawyer Fest" - for example, on the streets of Leo Tolstoy or Galaktionovskaya. We also advise you to look into one of the famous "wooden" Samara courtyards, where sheets are usually dried, homemade gazebos with worn-out armchairs are hidden and a dozen local cats are walking.
Zavolga
That's right, in one word. Zavolga is the right bank of the river, without which Samara people simply cannot imagine summer and the so-called Volga hedonism.
Zavolga is a village, islands with cottage settlements and wild beaches. The village of Rozhdestveno is ideal for cycling (there is a rental service on site), in Shiryaev you can visit the house-museum artist Ilya Repin or the traditional cherry festival with a tasting of the 11-meter "tsar-pie" and themed costumes. And on the Lower Beach - lie in a tent with a Zhigulevskoye eggplant and fry fish bubbles over a fire.
Also on this coast is the Samarskaya Luka National Park, on the territory of which the Molodetsky Kurgan, the Kamennaya Chascha ravine and Strelnaya mountain with an observation deck is one of the highest points of the Zhiguli, which one climbs for panoramic views and extreme photos. You can get to Zavolga by private boats (this is more expensive) or by Omiks (this is slower) - their schedule is available by link.
Kuibyshev street
Before the mundial Kuibyshev was restored, for the duration of the championship they made a pedestrian one - and she suddenly acquired the status of a party. Today, not only sticky old mansions and pompous buildings of former banks are concentrated here, but also catering points. There are restaurants, bars and coffee shops at every turn, and almost all of them strive to equip a seasonal veranda. Some have a couple of tables with awnings, others have hanging chairs in the form of nests, which were registered in the Instagramms of the townspeople last summer.
What to bring from Samara
Baking and sweets
Samara is flooded with chain bakeries with vendors in cartoon caps, but the city is still closer to the products of the local bakery combine: bread, puffs with cheese, spinach or berries, roll "Samarsky" with a criminal abundance of poppy filling, as well as the famous city bun. Recently check it out local governor. “It's a pity, there is no milk in the car,” Dmitry Azarov lamented, so we urge you to learn from other people's mistakes and not chew dry milk.
You can buy bakery merchandise in Samara in the bakery's branded stores or in any city supermarket. Another edible souvenir is Rodnye Prostory sweets, which are produced at a local chocolate factory.
Designer accessories and clothing
«Everything else»Is a gift shop that has just about everything: from the notorious passport covers, Demeter perfumes and designer ice cream to books by independent publishers and local merchandise. Pay attention to the enamel mugs and shoppers with the Zhiguli Mountains, frankly cool backpacks from Togliatti brand "Sputnik" or T-shirts with a minimalist print # СМРГДКРРТ - others may not understand, but Volzhans will approve. In addition, the book "Banditskaya Samara" can be found on the shelves of the store. Samara is a very multifaceted city.
Classic souvenirs and rocket models
For classic souvenirs for tourists, visit “Sambuc». Here you will find T-shirts with a portrait of the president on the chest, birch bark boxes, and knick-knacks with a local flavor. So, in "Sambuca" you can buy T-shirts with the print "I am beyond the Volga" or pop sights like the same boat and "Panikovsky", as well as various models of rockets, a clock in the shape of a bottle of "Zhiguli" and a gilded handle "Samara" for 16,755 rubles.
Beer and fish
It is better to travel to Samara light so that there is room in the suitcase for the full line of Zhigulevsk brewery products, including Venskoye, Fon Vakano, zero and branded lemonade. By the way, you can take them away in the branded “Na Dne” shop, which holds eight bottles and is sold in the bar of the same name. There you can also buy a ceramic or glass mug, a T-shirt with poltorashkas on the back, or a “Pivovoz” piggy bank. Finally, do not forget about the Volga fish from the "Bottom" - dried or smoked. Its pungent smell, combined with the aroma of beer, is close to every Samara inhabitant (and yet it is better not to put fish in a suitcase).
