Driving in winter is quite different from driving in other seasons. Bad weather and a decrease in daylight hours make travel by car rather dangerous. Let us add here the problem with the timely snow removal and the use of reagents and obtain a high probability of an accident. In order to minimize risks and to feel confident driving in all weather conditions, follow the simple tips.
1. Prepare your car for winter operating conditions
Ideally, you should carry out a complete inspection of the vehicle in the service station. If you cook your own car, then check it out the following check-list:
- tires replaced with winter;
- dipped beam, running lights, fog lights are working properly;
- a washer tank filled with liquid cold-resistant;
- battery is fully charged;
- works well the braking system;
- antifreeze and oil replaced (or topped up to the correct level).
2. Completely clean the snow from the car before driving
Snow on the body can slide off the roof, covering you with an overview. In addition, the dimensions of the car covered with snow, it is difficult to determine.
3. Plan your trip in advance
In the morning, nice to listen to the weather forecast, or browse social networks to assess the situation. This is especially important when traveling to another city. Do not forget to charge your mobile in case of emergencies.
4. Perform only deliberate maneuvers on slippery roads
Experienced drivers know that the ABS increases the braking distance, if the road is icy. Therefore, do not allow operation of the system: braking to slow down in advance as possible and smoothly. During the descent, use engine braking, transmission shifts sequentially. While climbing, select a gear, to avoid its change, as this can cause wheel slip. By overtaking on difficult areas (track, pronounced icing roads and so on) do better to abstain.
5. Highlight light dimensions of the car
For safe driving in the dark, especially in low visibility conditions, be sure to use dipped headlights in conjunction with foglights.
6. Remember the pedestrians!
Cross the road, people can slip and fall. Keep this in mind when approaching pedestrian crossings, as well as near hospitals, schools, kindergartens. Alas, often difficult to predict the actions of pedestrians, so be vigilant.
7. If possible, do not park your car on the road
This reduces the bandwidth and prevents snowplows. It may also be a cause of accidents in poor visibility.
8. Check the presence of a strong rope, first aid kit and a shovel
The situation may be different, but as the proverb says, forewarned - is forearmed. Rope and a shovel to help get out of the snow trap, and a first aid kit handy in case of ill health on the road or, pah-pah, in case of accident.
9. Improve your driving level
Neither a written guide will not teach you to quickly and properly cope with the drift, right to perform maneuvers to feel confident on the winter road. Sign up for special courses: in addition to the undeniable benefit, you get bright emotions and pleasure!
10. Focus your full attention on the road
Often we are not to blame for an emergency, but to get into it is still not very nice. Observing the speed limit being careful about the other road users, you will bring the risk of force majeure to a minimum.
In conclusion, we can say that these tips are suitable for both novice drivers and experienced - as a reminder. They shared with me, my dad, the motorist with the experience. They are armed with knowledge, careful on the road, and let your winter will be nice!
