Indiewire's 40 Best Fantasy Films

Indiewire, a well-known foreign film publication, published top 40 fantasy movies of all time. The list includes classic anime feature films by Studio Ghibli, two parts of "The Lord of the Rings" and a few little-known but worthy films. The top of the list looks like this:

1. The Seventh Seal (1957).

2. Spirited Away (2001).

3. The Wizard of Oz (1939).

4. Being John Malkovich (1999).

5. "Tales of the Foggy Moon after the Rain" (1953).

6. Beauty and the Beast (1946).

7. Pan's Labyrinth (2006).

8. "Uncle Boonmee Who Remembers His Past Lives" (2010).

9. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001).

10. Groundhog Day (1993).

Interestingly, Groundhog Day is in the top ten - hardly many viewers consider it a representative of the same genre as adventures of the hobbits, but the editors decided to include it because the creators "decided to include elements of fantasy in the mainstream comedy movie".
