We offer you a tour of the workplace industrial designer Michael Falkovich from Kharkov, who is currently working for a German company Botta-Design. Some time ago, we introduced you to the their productsNamely the clock DUO24.
What do you do in your work?
By profession I am - an industrial designer. I was born in Kharkov, where I studied at the Kharkov Art-Industrial Institute (now Kharkiv Academy of Design and Arts) at the Faculty of Industrial Design. Unfortunately, the great prospects in the profession, I have not seen in Ukraine, so he moved to Germany, where he continued his studies at the HfG Offenbach (Graduate School of Design in Offenbach). Already during my studies I started to work in the profession, and about 3 years ago, has found its place in the company Botta-Design, which is both a design - studio and the world famous watch brand. Products of this company is already 51 times was marked by various awards and prizes for achievements in the field of industrial design.
Our office is located in Königstein - this is a very picturesque town near Frankfurt. From our office we can see beautiful mountains. Our small company - only 4 persons. Each of each one of us aware of all ongoing cases, can democratically express their opinions, so that all decisions are taken collectively. Due to the small size of the company has to deal with not only industrial design, but also such things as: web design, programming, co-ordination of our online store, content management, public relations, and communication with the manufacturers of components and tools, and customers in both areas, as well as many other interesting themes. Due to this it is possible to evolve to keep pace with the times.
How does your workplace?
In fact, the jobs I have a few. As promdizayner I spend a lot of time in the studio where I make models for our clients, and watches for presentations. There, we use all kinds of machines are mainly Proxxon brand.
My main workplace - this is the desktop, where I spend most of my working time. I try to keep it tucked away, not because it is fashionable, but simply clutter prevents me from concentrating. It is the last 27-inch iMac, which we purchased recently (before I worked at Dell Precision). I must say that the transition to the MacOS was quite easy - in the operating system to work more pleasant. Mouse, keyboard and headphones respectively epplovskie. Still on the table I can find Bamboo FUN Tablet for work in the graphic editors, and phone Siemens Gigaset SL 910.
Almost every Monday morning my other jobs is the table for discussion. For them we are going to discuss four of us and a further action plan for all projects. And despite the fact that it's Monday morning, discussions are a lot of fun, because with humor we have everything in order. :-)
Room to monitor the quality hours - another of my workplace. The quality of our watches plays for us a very important role, so we use the lamp magnifier from Toolcraft and microscope Bresser, who are in this room.
What hardware are using?
Since we are working in 3D, it is very important that the computer is powerful and fast. For 3D-modeling video card is very important, and for rendering - the processor. We do not render the architecture, but only predmetku why not buy a special render stations. iMac'a more than enough: Processor - 3,4 GHz Intel Core i7 c 8th cores, RAM - 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, NVIDIA graphics card GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB.
My old Dell is not good enough the above objectives and the time has come to replace it. My co-worker, being an avid epplomanom, insisted on a Mac purchase and assured that the problems so often occurs on Windows, on MacOS does not happen. I believed him at his word and I should note that he was right.
Now I want to digress and tell you about a gadget that we all in the office, we gladly take. This robot vacuum cleaner Vorwerk-Kobold VR-100. At the moment, many are skeptical about this kind vacuuming. I think that it does not cover the entire area, and does not go into all the bottlenecks. Is obliged to reassure all: this thing is doing its job on all 100%, and besides him can be seen, both the fish in the aquarium or the pioneering fire: infinitely ...
What software use?
But to return to work. At the moment, I'm using Max OS X 10.8.4. Standard Safari and Apple Mail me more than satisfied. Mail read as they become available, because they always had requests from customers, suppliers, media, etc. We get a day at least 50 e-mails.
As the CAD and rendering, and we use Shark FX5.5. For post production, illustration, web and print advertising, we use Adobe Creative Suite 5. An important tool for communicating with programmers - Skype, although the date of purchase by Microsoft, the software is getting worse and worse. For better organization of affairs, I use the calendar on the iPhone.
Is there a place in your paper work?
Refuse fully from the paper - it's a long-standing dream, but I must admit that this is impossible. All of the first ideas we draw on paper, during the discussions I have always with a notepad and when a customer calls, the first thing I take in hand - a pen and paper.
Is there a dream configuration?
extremely important to me that the instruments that I use, whether it is a milling machine or a microscope, performed their tasks and not create additional problems. Therefore, we try to buy only high-quality equipment, mainly "Made in Germany". The same thing I can say about the hardware with the software - if we have a presentation of the machine must be rendered quickly, and in any case does not hang. With tasks that computer copes well. So at the moment I'm quite happy with the actual configuration.
