"I've always wanted to do the most difficult," - admitted in an interview guest today Layfhakeru category "Jobs". Sergey Musienko works in the field of genetics and bioinformatics, runs the company that is building the future of medicine. Read on and find out what to do on his desk a Nerf gun, any diaries world's best and what online courses should go through if fond of science.
Sergey Musienko
Bioinformatics leader. A graduate of MIPT, Moscow State Institute of California and the University of singularity. In 2013, with partners he founded biomedical holding company "Atlas". Responsible there for the strategy and operational work.
What do you do in your work?
I manage biomedical holding "Atlas». This is a group of companies that implement the concept of "personalized medicine". Someone had heard about us as the creators of the medical center "Atlas", someone - the same name as the developers of the genetic test, while others - as people who run on "Bumstartere 'successful campaign to test OhmyGut development to study a variety of bacteria living inside us - microbiota. We were first given permission for the provision of medical services in the territory of Skolkovo. we also create Solo test designed to help oncologists choose the most optimal treatment of cancer.
I am happy when I create something.
Each of these projects I am proud separately. But most importantly - they all fit into the overall picture of the future of medicine, which is called "medicine four Ps": predictive, preventive, personalized and participatory. We believe that this medicine will make new genomic and post-genomic technologies to analyze at the molecular level features of an organism to identify the problem at the very early stage, to understand the reasons for it, find it on the targeted impact and success with it sort out. The concept of medicine of the future is to bring down at addressing the individual problems of man all the power of modern science.
What is your occupation?
I graduated from the Faculty of Radio Engineering and Cybernetics MIPT in 2008, and it was really a great time. In the evening, the first two years, I studied Japanese language at the Institute MIRBIS and the third, when the Japanese was over (I got the second level - Noryoku Shiken), I had enough free time.
Then I entered the second degree in the Moscow State Institute for International Management Department. It was a childhood dream. I've always loved languages, and parents are somehow convinced me that it is better in terms of MGIMO Nothing languages.
Second degree, I graduated with honors, but to red in MIPT I was away. English, for example, truancy me have "satisfactory". It does best with a mathematical analysis and computer science. My specialty - telecommunication networks and systems - not much help to me in the current work. But the fundamental technical education, which gives the Physical-Technical Institute in the first three courses, I think it is absolutely priceless.
I think the most important thing that instilled in me institution - is the need to constantly learn something. Until now I pass all courses in genetics, bioinformatics and molecular biology at Coursera and EDX. In these industries, changes occur at a phenomenal rate. It should drop out of the information field for six months, and you're hopelessly behind. Perhaps that is why I have chosen for myself this area - I always wanted to do the most difficult.
I am inspired by intelligent people.
In the summer of 2011, I sat in the plane, "Moscow - San Francisco" and went to study at the University of singularity. This curious institution in the heart of Silicon Valley. It was established by Google and NASA's, fathers-founders - Founder X Prize Foundation Peter Diamandis (Peter Diamandis) and futurist, technical director of Google, Ray Kurzweil (Ray Kurzweil). you realize that the world has changed radically in ten weeks of the educational program. We are surrounded by an exponentially developing technologies that require a different mindset, a different planning and other management.
Returning to Russia, I founded the "Atlas". I wanted to bring together people with brilliant knowledge and create a project that would be implemented in the life of decoding DNA and other exponential technologies.
How does your workplace?
On the desk in my MacBook Pro 15 ", a Nerf gun kits to collect almost any kind of biomaterials and a cup of coffee.
MacBook embodies all the functionality necessary for me to use. At the same time I have enough basic applications. I installed Safari with extension AdStop (It is on your phone and tablet) and a standard mail client.
The tubes are not just. Usually it on my desk come first experiments with new packaging tests. We've been experimenting over the form and content sets (love to collect and examine almost everything from saliva to microbiota), we try to simplify the process of collecting biological material.
Nerf guns began to appear at us about a year ago. If today is to bring them together, you get a good store with a "weapon." When you need to warm up, we let them in business. :)
I do not use smart watch and try to be less distracted on various notifications. The entire workflow with the deadline we have conducted in Trello. Correspondence with the team - in the mail and Skype. But our design department uses Hipchat.
Is there a place in your paper work?
I'm a big fan of Japanese brand MUJI (Short Mujirushi Ryohin, which translated from Japanese means literally "no brand goods"). This is the company's concept - the cult of minimalism and functionality. MUJI make the world's best diaries. In his decision, I write workers' meetings, diagrams and mockups of our website and personal account, the new ideas that come to mind.
The only pity is that they are not sold in Russia. Most often, I give them to friends, returning from trips. It has already become a good tradition.
What is in your bag?
Now in my backpack is a book TranscendWritten by Ray Kurzweil and Terry Grossman (Terry Grossman). Last we have recently invited to speak at a conference on personalized nutrition, which will organize in April this year - Newtrition 2016. Next in line after the Transcend - book Russian scientist Alexei Moskalyova "How to win your age? 8 unique ways to help you achieve longevity».
More backpack charging, diary, pen and my recent discovery - the most convenient way to not forget the Japanese characters, which I miraculously found in a Moscow bookstore. With the characters have a big problem - they are instantly forgotten, if not actively use the language. Once I tried to do similar card itself, but it took a huge amount of time. And these have all you need: reading, keys, examples of the use of words and translations. Quite a fantastic thing, I strongly advise everybody who studies Japanese.
How do you organize your time?
The most useful tool for me is the most common - all the meetings I bring into Google Calendar.
Our company was a useful practice rassharivaniya calendars with partners. So we can see each other's schedule - it allows you to spend the least time on finding suitable options for meetings.
What's your daily routine?
My whole day is devoted to work. On weekdays, I wake up at nine in the morning and go to bed at two in the morning the area. Over the weekend, I try to sleep a lot and a lot of thinking about the global picture of our business.
How to pass the time in traffic jams?
I was lucky with geolocation - our central office is located 200 meters from my house, so the congestion problem for me is practically non-existent. Behind the wheel I sit only on weekends. For most trips to the meeting or to the clinic "Atlas" use Uber.
What place sport occupies in your life?
After becoming acquainted with Dmitri Alexeev, our partner on the project and double OhmyGut Ironman'om, I started running in Serebryany Bor. I join the class for joint service runs LetsRun.ru.
