Vladimir - frequenter of our blog. He shared with you jogging secrets and even It was once in the workplace. But as time goes on, and changing preferences and performance of the system. Now Vladimir three times more people in subjection, other OS, other priorities.
What do you do in your work?
like two years agoI have led the PR-agency Newsfront. During this time, much has changed - we changed the name and location, the number of people at the agency has grown from 7 to 25, changed responsibilities. Apart from the actual PR-agency, I supervise the direction of our marketing services holding company, which includes several agencies, marketing services (QUBE, Kids Market Consulting). In them I do not operational management, and help with the promotion, coordination of joint projects, internal training programs of personnel. My hobbies - jogging and triathlon - grew into a number of additional projects: cross-country excursion service in Kiev for foreigners Kyiv Running Tours and the organization of the day sportlagerey for amateur athletes TRIATMAN sports camps.
How does your workplace?
Their workplace, I slowly bring to a complete minimalist. I am an advocate of austerity in the work and I believe that on the table should be a lot of room to work with Phonebook / Text / printouts, and that at the same time there should not be anything that can distract from the work. For work, I absolutely quite a few notebooks, pencils and notebook. Every few days, I do a lot of cleaning table: throw out all unnecessary, there was not really necessary, and stored / digitizes what may someday be useful.
Often time I start in any cafe with internet: plan a day, rake-mail, write "morning pages" (Free writing technique described by Julia Cameron in her book "the artist's path»).
It happens to work on more tasks that require concentration, I leave the office at a cafe / park. We are working in a large open space, and although there are general rules of behavior in the office (if briefly - behave as in a library), but still sometimes you have to limit yourself from interruptions.
What hardware are using?
A year ago, I moved to the MacBook Air 13 "and absolutely happy. The only negative - sometimes clogged disk and you have to clean it, but the rest - I was completely satisfied with the life of battery life, weight and convenience.
Phone - iPhone 4, Mouse - Apple MagicMouse. The phone uses a lot and often, both as a camera (rented lots) and as reader (mostly through the app Kindle and Flipboard), And the browser / email client.
Home iMac 20 "finally turned into a movie theater for the child and for me serves as a wifi-router. iPad first generation, too, has mastered the 5-year old son, I sometimes take it for reading books through the same Kindle / Flipboard or Web Surfing. The trip, if there are plans to work, take only Air.
What software use?
Like on the desktop, in a laptop I try not to produce programs like minimalism. Most of the texts (and this one in particular) I type in a text editor OmmWriterWhere there is a text field and no toolbars. Browser - standard Safari, e-mail client - Standard Mail. To work on documents using the package MS Office - all the rest of the team works on Windows. For presentations that are preparing for their own performances, I am increasingly using Keynote. A good helper to work on large and complex tasks - program locks the access to certain sites SelfControl. Usually once or twice a day, I block their access to Facebook (LH: read our material harm on social networks and how to live with) To certainly eliminate the possibility of procrastination.
Finally, I often open MindManager - All work on the new task / project I start with the fact that pounces ideas and thoughts in the format of "mind maps", from which is exported to Word / Powerpoint, or so and leave the "picture".
Task Manager - Wunderlist. With him fighting - sometimes I throw, but then it comes back. What is missing in the Mail as compared to MS Outlook - so it is the integration of email and tasks, in particular - to automatically convert e-mail messages in the task. The need to move from a mail Wunderlist to create a task - annoying, but a better option is not yet found. On the other hand, Wunderlist is worth the iPhone to sync tasks - easy to set yourself reminders during meetings, long runs or in a traffic jam.
Methods of work with mail have changed a lot after going on a Mac. If earlier in Outlook I did everything very clearly structured: the rules for storage, the breakdown of folders for clients / projects, "Clean" inbox, and so on, but now I do not anywhere laid out - so fast I search the contents of the mail box. At some point I decided that I will seek out, rather than spend time on the pursuit of zero inbox.
Although the agency and has a long tradition of internal communication via Skype, about a year ago I made the decision to part with instant messengers (of course, telling colleagues about it). communication quality is not affected, but turned "chop off" another interrupt source. During the year I went to Skype two or three times - and it turned out that there is a life without him.
To check the mail, I try to highlight the 3-4 period a day for 30-40 minutes, then go into the "stand-alone" mode. Programs panel (dock), I have long been removed from the desktop to new mail notifications are not distracted from the task at hand. Does not always withstand such a rhythm, but I try to spend time "is not in the mail," and in the fulfillment of the tasks that are priorities for me at the moment.
Is there a place in your paper work?
A year ago, I had a few workbooks, now it came down to one Moleskine hardcover. planning principles have remained the same, but now all the records, I am in the same notebook. Maybe it's just laziness - after the unit ended in Manekibook, hands do not reach to buy a new one. I write a lot: do record all meetings with customers, record their own thoughts, make notes, preparing for a meeting with the staff.
Is there a dream configuration?
I think, from the above it was clear that I needed a little luck. A little more memory, probably, and full coverage of Kiev Wi :)
