What do you do in your work?

I try to constantly change it and do more experimenting with it, so that a permanent residence, it has not. For about 8 years my only computer - a laptop. Usually, this laptop is average of the currently available on the market.
Workplace I do not have any. Almost from the beginning of work at Microsoft I had my chair and table - there is practiced shared desk approach for employees who spend much time away from the office. In Microsoft I had a locker in the key in which I kept what I thought was necessary. When leaving the company revealed that "everything necessary" weighs about a kilogram ;-) I do not get attached to things. Get rid of the habit - very cool.
I like it when people do not have jobs, if they do not really need. For example, Microsoft has a technical department, whose staff work mainly in very large customers, and in his own office they need for a day in the month. So, in theory, you can save on rent and to remove five times less space for such a unit.
Of course, we are not talking about accounting, HR or personnel department kind of telesales. But those who work outside the office it's better instead of unnecessary square meters of office will have "official" car to go to the customers. My workplace - it is rather a set of familiar tools on the computer, rather than a particular table and favorite chair.
What hardware do you use?
The last five or six years, it was the IBM / Lenovo device company that battered me from the employer. For example, Microsoft is now the de facto standard Lenovo once had to part with Toshiba (unreliable) and DELL (it was not particularly in Russia), as well as HP. Lenovo (I have the last two years was the T60p with 4Gb of memory) - a very good new laptop and there is a good range of form factors.
After leaving Microsoft, I moved to Mac. Not of principle but of curiosity - I want to try something else. However, the past two years, one Mac and so lived in my house - it works wife. First version 2003, quickly moved for 2007 and with the release of the first version of the "tenth" office even six months lived with Outlook 2010. In fact Autluk - very good. I probably would not use it without a bunch with Microsoft Exchange Server and collaboration with colleagues. But if it is - Outlook for me it is a very good option. Time management, contacts, public folders, all in one program interface - very cool and saves a lot of time. Now, "after", I moved to Gmail + Google Calendar. Of course, there is such a great speed of a desktop software, as it was with Outlook'om and Google services are not so well "knit" with each other as the software from Microsoft to work together. But there are also advantages. For example, Google is very well developed mobile component of their services - read about their current principle "mobile first"And you will understand what I mean. Especially when integrated with the "Google Phone" Nexus One, which I use. About Gmail I think everyone knows everything, but I can only say that the product is fairly complex - to deal with the tags and rules of their auto-billing the common man can not do. And try to print eg a list of unread messages... geek product, in general. But the principle of use - try and try to find the best opportunities. Why look for the worst - I do not know.
Browser. At Microsoft, I mostly enjoyed of IE8, but have set all browsers to understand how the world works and what really works well. IE8 browser is quite good, but for the year of its release all the competitors are so far away and quickly sped ahead of performance, I chose Chrome. he also did for the Mac, but Windows is better. Some people say that there is all the necessary plug-ins on Firefox for it, but I would advise to keep an open mind - plug-in is already very much (check), and the speed of his work seems to be perfect. The calendar. At Microsoft, I used the built-in Outlook / Exchange calendar. If you've ever tried to run with the crowd of colleagues using Exchange, you sure you have been difficult to come away with him. Working together with the calendar there on top. organization Affairs. I tried to use several techniques, but eventually realized that if I have enough of its own methods, the more I do not need anything. "Good work - do not touch" - say the system administrators. I have only email and calendar. Unread messages in the mail - a todo. If any business is the period of performance, then it is assigned the exact time in the calendar. Important: Never, under any pretext, in any case do not "skipat" calendar task. At least once a week to view the calendar for one or two or three weeks ago and look to see if something is omitted inadvertently. If it's time to do business, it is possible or to make or reschedule for tomorrow no more than once or deleted. Similar to GTD, huh? If strictly control themselves - will succeed. Twitter Clients. I have a couple of Twitter clients on the computer, but do not use them.
