Jobs: the story of Vladimir Degtyarev
Workplaces / / December 27, 2019
Today about his workplace and home office tells us Vova Degtyarev - a man whose name I first comes when it comes to PR-technologies. Fans of both Mac and Windows will be satisfied raskaz Vova, since it uses very flexible best that give the user of the system.
Will receive special pleasure lovers paper notebooks - there is simply a lot and each has its own task.
What do you do in your work?
The last 8 years I have been working in PR, now - Director of Ukrainian PR-agencies Starget. It so happened that his entire professional life I have somehow worked closely with web projects - starting with the IT-company way back in 2000, where he was technical writer'om and writing user manuals and FAQs for control of web hosting, and to agencies and companies where I have worked, except communications, also support and website content, online media analysis, etc. Since basic education - humanitarian (translator / teacher) I had to complete their education - and now somewhere gathering dust in the archive with certificates for php-programming courses, web conferencing and video processing, and even Linux Administration.
This, of course, has affected and those projects that had to work in the PR - and PR support for the launch of the first Ukrainian business social network Profeo, and the program of work in the new media to the telecom operators and the use of new tools and social media for FMCG and financial customers.
Finally, an important part of my presence on the Internet - self-promotion (myself and agencies that work): blogs (time, two), The site Starget.com.ua, your Facebook, Twitter, Slideshare, The organization of community meetings and PR people - for example, PR Café. The plans - the creation of an online community of Kiev runners and more.
How does your workplace?
Jobs I have a few. One - actually at work, Starget agency. I am a supporter of "clean desktop", and therefore try to keep it only a few notebooks (about them later), the actual laptop and office supplies. By the way, the same applies to the "desktop" on the laptop, where I try to limit the number of labels to 5-7. A large part of my working day is held meetings - both internal (status, brainstorming, discussions, etc.) and external - with clients and current possible, colleagues, partners, editors, publishers, etc. So my workplace I carry in a laptop bag, and try not to get attached to "Physical" table.
Second workplace - home. Initially, the 20-inch iMac working wife (she is a freelance illustrator), but after the "black Friday "I bought her incredible discount 17" MacBook Pro, iMac became a multimedia center and a place for browsing. Computer desk made to order for the project spouses - high enough to be able to work standing (or sitting on a bar stool). It turned out interesting and convenient (and, importantly, high enough to not reached year-old child).
Finally, if I need to work at home with the working papers (and the sword of the Samurai PR is known, a Powerpoint and Excel), then I'm going to the balcony, which we turned into a mini-office - have warmed, brought light and electricity, put a small table, windowsill has turned into a book shelf. If the "office" is already occupied MacBookPro - it remains a kitchen with a large and comfortable desk. Internet at home I get on the iMac and distribute through it over WiFi to all the other devices.
What hardware are using?
Working laptop - ASUS, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.0 Ghz, 2.0 Gb. More configurations more than enough for work tasks and entertainment (from the last - on the laptop went great Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2).
And the mouse, and in the home, and at work I use apple'ovskuyu - I was used and could not break the habit.
Idle doing nothing other than Apple Cinema Display monitor 19 ": from left of some of the old system unit and the adapter converter to ASUS'ovsky laptop is too expensive for a little more comfort with noutom.
Phone ASUS M930 on its last legs (by the way, I do not advise). Generally, phones and my tehnokarma not really get along well - over the last few years this is the fifth unit. It chose two of the screen and qwerty-keyboard. There is still the old Glowfiish X600, which refused to GSM-module, but works GPS-receiver. It I used to read e-books, and with him the same run, measuring the distance by GPS and jogging speed. I am using the wonderful service EndomondoWhich reads information from Glowfiish and spreads at once with reference to the Google-map. Previously used a combination for the same purpose: Nike + sensor and iPod, but it turned out that the sensor is relatively small battery life, and new parties of Nike, it seems, did not deliver.
Now I choose between (guess?) IPhone'om and Nokia E71 / E72.
Next in line will be some flat camera (preferably wide) for fast everyday photos, sketches and reports on the blog.
When I'm away from the office or at home, and do not have WiFi, rescues 3G / CDMA modem MTS Connect.
What software use?
Operating System Desktop nouta - WindowsXP (was supplied). The main browser - Opera. I love her for her speed, "hot keys" (a quick call via Ctrl I set to Gmail, Facebook, Google Calendar, Google Reader, and YouTube). In addition, we have solved the problem of different accounts (they do not exist) on a home computer is simple - wife enjoys Firefox'om I - the Opera House, and can not pereloginivatsya on the most commonly used services). The main working tool - MS Outlook. I - "heavy user" of the program, and here I have to-do lists by categories, and calendar, and mail are tied in one knot. Resource management using a volatile mix of GTD and Getting Things Done Arkhangelsk (in particular, his MS Outlook Tips for use). Through the Google Calendar Sync program I associate Google-calendar (and your own, and the corporate agent) with MS Outlook calendar, so I can easily make changes and plans in any of them, depending on what I do next - phone, or a third party computer a laptop.
When I'm out of the office, e-mail reading through phone, the mobile version of Gmail, which duplicated the whole working correspondence directly from your server.
Google Reader - a very powerful and useful tool. I have 5-6 main folders: blogs Ukrainian journalists and PR, blogs western PR-guru, the Russian PR-blogs and resources, measurement news effectiveness of PR, online marketing and work new media, news Western PR- and advertising market, motivational and life hacking blogs and, of course, results in blogs and forums for me, agency employees and key clients.
ICQ has recently included after 2 years of full ignore - no difference felt and turned off again. Skype is used mainly for quick talks with colleagues. A lot of talk through Gtalk, regular mail and in social networks, not to mention the mobile phone, and the urgent need for additional messengers do not see.
For Twitter on the PC using Tweetdeck - while for me it is the customer number one. Very convenient to multiple accounts (a, client, agent, etc.), can easily and quickly track mentions of the hashtag, asking keyword search and more.
Its quite an active life in Facebook'm from the browser - in clients I miss the whole environment and context.
For his personal blog, which launched a few months ago, I chose the Posterous platform (previously used Blogspot). Posterous attracted by its simplicity and ease of: writing a letter-post in Outlook or Gmail, insert atachmenty (photo, video), send it to a specific address - and service itself converts multiple photos in a photo gallery, converts video and embed the video player, etc. What you need to busy person when you do not want to play with HTML.
Not so long ago began to experiment with Evernote and DropBox - while trying to enter it into a habit, and about the value of talk is not ready.
Of the programs that I use on a Mac and are missing on Windows, it must be called OmmWriter - stunning minimalist text editor, in which there is nothing superfluous - just you, text, and (for optional) music.
Is there a place in your paper work?
As I've said before, I try not to pile materials - in any form. Long reports, articles and presentations that require more than 10 minutes to read, I often print, but after reading or commenting / I correct and return to the author (if internal agency materials) or Dispose.
But to write / draw / paint schemes and plans I like, and therefore can not do without notebooks. I have three business notebook. In one, the big in the small Moleskine cover, I write in the office or in meetings with customers / partners meeting abstracts, diagrams, and timing of projects, summaries of lectures and master classes. Neutral linovany Moleskine hardcover - exclusively for weekly planning and review. I stand here at the beginning of the week priorities for the week in different directions, but here fix top 3 tasks for each day and analyze the results of the week on Saturday and Sunday. In contrast to the to-do list to MS Outlook, where I drop all the tasks - from the 'reply to the letter X "to" pay utility account "bookmark I make only basic tasks, which bring me to a kind of strategic objectives (" Plan five years ").
Finally, ManekiBook with interchangeable blocks - for travel and everyday use. When I go to a meeting and do not want to lug a bag with noutom and larger notebooks, I write in Manekibook, which is easily fits in a jacket pocket, and after him to make the plastic tabs, pockets, and can serve as a substitute for wallet. Action-items I note, in contrast to other entries, check boxes, and once or twice a week I look through notebook: if the task is accomplished - cross out, or bear in MS Outlook.
Note: Pay attention to the article «GTD in your notebook. The method of "dots" and "crosses". "
Is there a dream configuration?
I am a person very unpretentious)) next laptop will be taking a smaller and lighter. The rest - for enough office programs and the minimum configuration, and challenges such as treatment multi-gigabyte psd-files or video processing, I hope I do not soon will have.
