Today our guest is a very special guest - Marina Koretskaya or just Marinka. As the saying goes: "Beauty, podkastersha and domain name registrar and marketer big brands NIC.UA». In his story, Marina will speak about his work at the workplace, as well as the detail will affect the Kiev branch of the popular device of IT-Podcast Radio-T. Enjoy reading :)
What do you do in your work?
Chances are you know me for such projects as NIC.UA and Radio-T. As deputy. director of marketing and PR issues, NIC.UA I was directly involved in the development and promotion of the main services of the company (registration of domains, hosting, trademarks, and more). A little less than a month ago, we launched a new website, and currently is actively working on the merger and NIC.UA Hosted.ua.
I usually say in the Radio-T, which, oddly enough, too, must have its particular workplace.
In addition, take part in the activities of Python community (people programming on Python), and now we are preparing for PyCon Ukraine 2011.
Of the lesser known achievements of the past can boast participation (algorithm and software) in module for development determining minute volume of blood flow by thermodilution (used in bedside monitors for medical institutions). Then on the table I could find a board, cables, oscilloscope, and even a soldering iron. But that's another story.
How does your workplace?
I love when the desktop all the necessary things to me are in this order, so that I can interact with them intuitively without looking (like a blind typing). That's why I have it clearly divided into functional areas are quite logical.
The central part: the main working tool after the head, ie, a laptop. In close proximity to it are the auxiliary "tools": phones, trakped, notepad and pen.
A little further arranged things that create comfort my stomach: tea and cookies. Empty plastic "saucer" expresses sorrow for the prohibition of seeds in the office (before they were there).
Even further - items for the blind and thoughts, ie, various gadgets which do not carry a no functional load, but are very helpful in changing the course of the thoughts: tsipa-utya; icon; Little Eiffel Tower of Paris, which is worn cord symbolizing fireworks (presented last work); boat from Peter; Pirate, which fall out of the M & M's; plunger for iPhone, travel tickets from Paris and Moscow; Belarusian and Russian rubles.
On the side of the wall I have printed a calendar where I mark important events and crosses the stream of days. It is located so that I could cast a total picture of action for the next month by simply turning your head to the right.
In addition, behind me, hanging badges with different activities and monsters from Space Invaders, lined with stickers.
If we talk about home studio, there is still easier: in addition to the equipment and a laptop (for them it will be a little more), only tea and a smartphone can be located on the table. The presence of other things very distracting, as during the podcast to speak, listen and read.
What hardware are using?
Question about your work laptop was not even - it must be a MacBook. Now I have a MacBook 13 "2010 edition. Belenky. This is the most optimal screen size for me. The remaining parameters: Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 Gb RAM, 250 Gb hard drive.
I do not use the mouse for more than 5 years. At work, I use Magic Trackpad from Apple, but at home - simple tablet Wacom Bamboo One.
At work, I have to noutu poklyuchen D-link'ovsky hub, which includes the printer and the Stand-charging for the iPhone.
Now I use two phones - iPhone 4 "The White One" and rosy Nokia C1. The last phone used to communicate with my family. I live alone and I want always to be able to call me, so a phone that holds a charge for over a week - the perfect solution. On an iPhone ringtone costs with the theme of toys Mario Bros., but on Nokii - "Oz-oz" of Radio-T.
I think whether iPad I need, and while I understand that completely do without him.
Podcast, I use:
- personal old MacBook 13 ", 2005, issue;
- mixer Soundcraft CompAct4;
- an external sound card Lexicon Lambda;
- Dynamic Microphone samson R11;
- microphone stand;
- shokmaunt (spider);
- a bunch of wires and adapters.
It's all been bought about 2.5 years ago, and now I want to change only the microphone.
And here is a picture of my first computer (not including the Spectrum). it Macintosh Classic II 1994 release, it is necessary in the closet, it is working. Only here the printer to it broke ...
What software use?
Oh, there's just not count. But of course I will try to cover the highlights.
The operating system on both machines - Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1. Purchased by honest as update with "Snowball" (Snow Leopard). On the iPhone - iOS 5 beta 7. In my life there were many operating systems, and all of them were either complete or are free. Pirate was only one - Windows 95. Once, I even remember the key to it, as to reinstall it to all friends.
Means of communication: Adium (For Jabber; ICQ no longer used) Psi (For group chat during a Radio-T), a Skype (more often - for group work and personal chat) Bria 3 (SIP-telephony), Thunderbird (Personal mail), the Gmail via the web (e-mail working), Mail Address on the iPhone (and the working and personal).
Always unplug all sound notifications in applications, as well as a pop-up window that someone wrote, entered / left, etc. Those. in fact, I have only appears next to the icon count of new messages. I not always appeal to them immediately. This approach allows us not "to spray attention to" small things.
E-mail scanning - at work in front of me is always iPhone, which stretches push'em mail and gets notifikeyshenom on the screen. But not all, and the only one that I want to see and quickly react to it. This helped me filters that are configured on the server-side. Thus, the corner of my eye to track incoming mail that can not be missed, and a less important to pay when the free will mintuka.
Different "office" services: Google Docs and Pages (for word processing), Keynote (presentations delalka, I can not imagine life without it), Google Calendar, Megaplan (Tasks to work through a browser), Google Chrome (browser, very rarely use Safari), 1Password (Standing on the laptop and on the phone, bought), Dropbox (personal and work), Alfred (For quick dosutpa applications; I also can not live without quick-louncher'a)
Graphic arts: Gimp (Image editor, ala "Photoshop"), InkScape (Operating with vector images). They are both free to use.
Development: Xcode, Sublime Text 2 (With purchased license), and of Terminal, for without it in any way.
Social: personal twitter look only on the phone through a standard Twitter, rarely through a browser on a laptop; Working Twitter - CoTweet Standard and Twitter on the iPhone; Facebook - browser and iPhone app.
Of paper I have only a moleskin notebook + printed calendar on the wall, about which I wrote above. Any paper that falls on my desk, I mercilessly ditch after reading (if it is not official documents).
Sound: Sound Studio, A license for which we bought with donations of listeners Radio-T. For this, they once again great thanks.
Desk I have no labels, and Dock'e I never have applications that are not running at the moment.
Is there a dream configuration?
For maximum idyll at work I do not have enough food. Food cooking greatly diversifies the flow of thoughts and ideas, and their head is born more, which can not but rejoice.
