Work after a long vacation - a real nightmare. Work mailbox with letters, dozens of tasks, and you do not even know for what to catch and what to do in the first place. How to deal with all that came over on the first day? Here are six tips on how to avoid falling into such a situation and deal with the rubble on arrival.
Holiday - it's great, but for all the good things have to pay. You return to this mountain of work that you start to doubt whether it was necessary to leave at all.
Of course, the answer is "yes, it was worth", but still in this little pleasant. Fortunately, you can prepare in advance and prevent blockages on arrival. And here's how to do it.
1. Plan ahead
Raking blockages need to plan more before the start of your holiday. Of course, you want immediately after the return to start meetings and projects, so as not to waste time.
However it is better to wait with this, and the first thing to sort through all the tasks for a long period, to determine the importance to them and to identify the extent that when you perform. Do not try to do everything on the first day, accept the lack of time and remember that many things can wait.
2. Set reasonable boundaries
There is nothing wrong with that a little work while on vacation. Of course, if it interferes with your plans, do not give to relax completely or upset those with whom you have a rest, do not spoil the holiday.
But if you have 30-60 minutes to spare in the day, why not make the most important things to do? Just half an hour of work in the morning, and on arrival the rubble will be much less.
3. return early
If you are going away for a week or two, it is better to return to the day early to have remained in the reserve one free day at home.
So you can safely unpack, sleep properly and do some work at night. For example, see the schedule for next week, clean up the mail and schedule tasks that need to be addressed first.
4. Prepare for your absence message
When you are going on vacation, how you respond to e-mail, if at all, do it? Surely you have a special official letter stating that you are on vacation and you will be in the office on a certain date.
It is useful to you, and on the last day before going to work. This day you will need to deal with all that came over for a week or two, and a new and unexpected customers / issues / problem you do not need it. So feel free to submit this letter - you still on vacation. Or simply…
5. remove all
This technique is only for the brave. Open the mailbox, select all the letters that have come in vacation time, and delete them. If this is something really important, you will write again, if not - you were on vacation.
Of course, this technique will not work for everyone, but if your work (and moral precepts) allows to do so, would be nice to see a clean inbox.
6. Plan entertainment Evening
The first working day after the holiday may resemble hell, and to somehow relax and stop hating everyone and everything, plan for the evening something nice.
Of course, watching your favorite movie with a bucket of ice cream - it's not as good as a vacation, but will help to distract from problems and hassles at work.
And how do you deal with the rubble at work after the holiday?
