Breakfast club philosophical or scientific discoveries were made before

Very interesting video with a performance of Laura Snyder about how new ideas were born in the philosophical breakfast. I think we should take note of a few ideas from this presentation.
One morning in 1812, in a meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science 4th distinguished philosopher - Charles Bebidzhu (inventor of the first mechanical calculator), John Herschel (paid on the star map the stars of the Southern Hemisphere and in his spare time has become one of the inventors of photography), Richard Jones (renowned economist whose ideas significantly influenced Karl Marx) and William Uelvelu (lead researcher of the tides, coined the term "anode", "cathode", "ion" and "scientist") - was able to defend their point view and change the world.
Such a definition as a "scientist" did not exist until 1833. Prior to this, all the people, whether it's an inquisitive priest or landlord, who was involved in collecting beetles or fossils, called just talented amateurs. And thanks to the four scientists were such outstanding as Charles Darwin and others.
It turns out that workers on part-time, who performed complicated calculations to fill the tables for shipping and other activities (accounting, insurance, banking, etc.), called "Computers"! And when Bebidzh invented the first calculator that could well be called the first computer scientists believed that mechanical computers will be no good!
Then, in order to invent something new or make a discovery, it is not necessary to walk for special parties and seek investors. Enough patience, assertiveness and the natural curiosity of man. After all, there was no social networks, series and television, and all the free time to devote to hobbies. And at breakfast people were buried in phones and communicate. As a result of this communication in the light of new ideas and inventions.
