We get nervous when choosing your photo, because the first impression may decide zavyazhutsya Do we have a relationship with someone, or if we get the job done. However, scientists have found that it is better to entrust the choice of a stranger, and here's why.
The researchers conducted an experimentChoosing face: The curse of self in profile image selection.: Selected 102 students and collected pictures of their profiles to Facebook. Young people were asked to evaluate their own photo on a scale from 1 to 10 on the following criteria: attractiveness, reliability, authoritativeness, confidence and competence. Then 160 participants who are not familiar with the first group, estimated the same pictures on the same criteria. Estimates do not match. The pictures that the students considered their most successful, the second group received a lower score.
This result surprised scientists. They expected that the participants will be easier to choose your own best pictures, but it turned out that it is not. Interestingly, some dating sites have noticed and taken into account this phenomenon. For example, Tinder recently started using an algorithm that selects the basic profile picture based on an amount obtained right swipe.
So why can not we choose a good picture of ourselves, because we can see the whole life my face in the mirror?
We see then, what others do not know.
First, our knowledge about themselves distort our perception, when we try to interpret their facial expressions. For example, you know that you are reliable person, and therefore in their photos automatically you see yourself as such.
Moreover, it affects our perception of the effect illusory superiority. It consists in the fact that we always appreciate themselves higher than others.
There is another aspect. We already perceive a certain way before they looked at the photo. Therefore it is difficult to distinguish between what we really appreciate: their own quality or quality person in the photo.
You can see dozens of photos of one person, but for those who do not know, every picture tells its own story.
