It is interesting, but only one out of four people is able to distinguish a full range of colors. Others see only a distorted picture. Pass a simple test to determine how well you can distinguish colors.
Did you know that approximately 75% of people can not distinguish between the whole range of colors?
Why it happens? The fact that our ability to distinguish between colors depends on the number of cones (photoreceptors) in the retina.
A check himself and determine how well you can distinguish colors, you can use a simple test. Just count how many colors and shades you see in the image (think stripes).
How many colors do you counted?
1. You have counted at least 20 slips. This means that you have two types of light-sensitive cones. You're like 25% of all people in the world belong to the category of people, which is called the dichromate. By the way, dogs are also dichromate.
2. You see 20 to 32 different slips. In this case, you trichromats. That is, at your disposal are three different types of cones, and you are able to distinguish not only the primary colors, but most of their shades. This category of people include about 50% of the world population.
3. You have counted 32 to 39 slips. If so, you are among tetrachromacy and are able to see a very large range of colors. This ability you are similar to bees, which are also tetrachromacy.
4. If you counted more than 39 slips, I recommend to take the test again. In the picture of 39 different colors, and when you consider that you are looking at the screen, the difference can be even less.
