Technology virtual and augmented reality can be used not only for entertainment purposes. British scientists from Oxford Group decided to apply them to solve more serious problems and introduced the AR-headset for the visually impaired OxSight.
The new development, which is based on the technology of augmented reality and computer vision algorithms, It is designed to help visually impaired people better navigate in space and do not stick or guide.
Man sees not only the eyes: for the perception and processing of visual signals meets the brain, which in partial blindness does not receive the necessary data, or receive, but not in full. OxSight adapts to the specific characteristics of a person, and may enhance the visual signal, increasing image contrast, brightness, and other parameters.
For example, for people with tunnel vision and problems with color vision glasses will enhance the brightness, and for those suffering from glaucoma do blurred image more contrast. OxSight to use only the remaining capacity of a person, and complements it with the help of technology.
While the headset is in the development stage. Scientists have yet to thoroughly optimize the software part, to process the data using a single application on a smartphone. Also in their plans to make OxSight more like normal glasses. Now they look like a VR-headset and connected to the processing unit, that person must be worn on the belt.
Pricing and release dates OxSight not yet known. Monitor the development of the project can be on official website.
