Surely, you have seen a few of them, but the author of TUAW, Yoni Heysler, I found them ALL... or almost everything. When I made my list, I was lucky enough to talk with screenwriter Simpson Bill Oakley (I worked on seasons 4-8) and its director - David Silverman (the team with the 1st season till today day). They kindly shared with me many interesting facts about how and why were these or other Apple mention.
And there you have the first interesting fact that belongs to the creator of Futurama and The Simpsons - Matt Groening. Before gain worldwide fame, he helped create the Apple Macintosh advertising brochure for students in the late '80s.
Moreover, David Cohen, the second creator of Futurama, also involved in the Apple - in the early 80's, he wrote to the assembly language Zoid game for the Apple II computer. Nothing like? Of course, Dr. Zoidberg. In one of his interviews, Cohen admitted that his favorite computer is still Apple II and that he is faithful Mac because "he is a direct descendant of an old friend" - Apple II.

Although Oakley worked on this series, he said that each episode has a responsibility for his people - "show runner", who has watched every smallest element of the series. If the object in the picture is not contrary to the script and does not create unintended jokes like this one a Mac, it will likely just a whim of the artist.
David Silverman adds that many animators drew all the computers in Simpsons like the Mac, because they themselves have used them - in the early 90's, they were incredibly popular in animation.
