The most popular browser among MacRadar readers - Safari. He favored 36% of users, followed by Chrome (33.09%), Firefox (9.56%) and Opera (7.38%). Which one of the fastest browsers? The answer is given a series of tests.
Lifehacker US I decided to test on the Mac popular browsers. Method study included not only the performance measurement (java-script processing, CSS). We also measured the things that matter to ordinary users: the speed of launching applications, loading tabs, opening sites and work with memory.
Safari was the winner of the following indicators:
- download the application rate (second place in the Google Chrome, from which slightly behind Firefox)
- RoboHornet - a comprehensive performance test browsers (even scrolling speed is measured by a window with an animated gif-pictures)
- Working with memory. It turned out, Safari manages memory more economical. With nine tabs open epplovsky browser on this indicator walked Opera, Firefox and Chrome (at that last place, by the way). The authors also put the dough in each browser on five extensions and measure again how applications use memory. The picture has changed slightly. Safari again head and shoulders above the competition. The second place Firefox, Opera and followed - Chrome (the new brake?).
Safari lost in 5 tabs load tests at once (a victory for Firefox), in page display speed (in the champion - Chrome) and "cold" recovery session (won Opera).
When the American Lifehacker summed up, Safari proved the undisputed leader:
- Safari: 78%
- Firefox: 64%
- Chrome: 60%
- Opera: 46%
In my opinion, our tests do not give the whole picture. For me the matter is not only productivity, but also the level of comfort. I find it hard to understand the users that prefer the Mac Firefox (strange work with fonts, lack of support for the latest Apple technologies) or Opera. Surprise was the backlog of "chrome" in performance. How can this be explained?
