Chrome mobile users in Russia are offered to choose the search engine. Why or why
Select the search engine? What is it like?
Like this:
At a special window Android-device screen appears prompting you to select a search engine. This occurs when you first start the Chrome mobile browser after upgrading to 60-second versions.
Who and what is up?
We tell everything from the beginning. The story began in 2013 in Europe. Handset manufacturers filed a complaint with the European Commission, because Google is imposing their applications and services. In 2014, a similar situation exists in Russia. Google banned the preset applications and services of competitors on mobile devices, Android-Fly, Explay and Prestigio. At the beginning of 2015 "Yandex" has appealed to the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia, and began to spin.
Stop! Android - free system, unless Google can do something to someone to forbid?
Google is not prohibited to install Android, but would prohibit manufacturers to produce mobile devices with Google Play. Who needs a smartphone or tablet without the app store?
To be eligible to use Google Play on their smartphones and tablets, mobile device manufacturers have had to fulfill additional conditions: preset other Google apps and services that make Google the default search engine, and in some cases not to cooperate with potential competitors Google.
So what? Applications can be downloaded to, and easily change the search engine
Aware of this and know how to do it, not all. It turns out that Google has imposed producers and, consequently, their own users and applications and services.
Okay, and how to respond to the FAS?
In February 2015, FAS filed a case against Google, accusing him of violating the law "On competition" and "abuse of dominance". Initiative supported association FairSearch, which includes companies such as Microsoft, Oracle and Nokia. FAS found Google guilty, and then began litigation, which lasted half a year.
The end of the story?
In April 2017 Google and the FAS concluded amicable agreement. Google will pay a fine of 438 million rubles and will allow manufacturers of mobile devices sold in Russia, pre-install any third-party applications.
Also, now Android users in Russia will see a special menu prompts you to select a search engine in Chrome browser and the search widget on the home screen of the mobile device.
