from the editor: After reading this article, I wanted to tear down half of installed programs, and so I did. Indeed, we often overload yourself software, which tries to compensate for the shortcomings of web services, the people around us. At the cost of his time, his money eventually.
Use only the software that is really needed. No more, no less. Select one application to define and examine it thoroughly.
I have had two types of applications, among which it was hard to pick a favorite: vebrauzery and text editors. When I first started writing, I did everything in Microsoft Word. When I needed to study vi to work, I unconsciously took it to the most senseless products. Later, during my brief affair with Linux on my desktop PC, I used to despise and Open Office. And last month, I found that he had bought and installed all of the major word processors and editors that are available for the Mac.
I had a Word, Pages, Mellel, Mariner Write, Ulysses, AbyWord, Bean, WriteRoom, Open Office, MacVim and TextMate. And to top it all, I tied the last two and a LaTex to "generate the documents."
With browsers similar sad situation. My default browser changed from OmniWeb to Camino, then Safari, iCab further, then Shiira, Firefox, Flock, Sunrise, Stainless, Chrome, Opera, and, in the end, again, Safari.
All, everything that I have written previously about each of these applications are simply ridiculous. I have great respect for the developers, but to be honest, I have simply no particular desire nor the time to try to learn a new software.
All this led me to "concerning the principles of minimalism in the software." The less software you install, so with less klichestvom encounter problems later when it is updated. The Apple engineers are working fine, and their applications bundled with the operating system, perfectly replace many analogues totally free for users of Mac OS X. Safari - the perfect browser. It has high speed, it is loaded with various features and supports expansion.
Another great app also comes with Mac OS X - TextEdit. Humble text editor that much. When I write lyrics, I only need to print it was nice and to be recognized standard for Mac OS keyboard shortcuts. All the rest - it's the sauce. I use to write my blog posts in a plain text markup, so most of my posts look just like text. The syntax in the code is so minimal that it would be ridiculous to use this shortcut. How difficult is it to put the "star" at the beginning or end of a word? Or put in square brackets and parentheses to leave a link to it? It's easy, and my tail of these "productive life hacking" stretched me too long.
I continue to keep the Word in his hand because, admit it, sometimes you just need a Word. For the rest of me is quite sufficient to TextEdit and Safari. I attended a meeting TextMate funny club, exclusive hangouts Vim fans, I was on Firefox festivals and gatherings Chrome. I have heard that they are preparing us, I'm not impressed with their future.
Polzuytest only the software that you necessary. No more, no less.
I have only one word processor, only one browser, and just comfortable for one application task. What do you need?
