No excuses: "Do what you can not!" - an interview with Stanislav powerlifter Burakov
Motivation / / December 19, 2019
It's time to get out, dude!
- Hello, Glory! Thank you to the busy schedule of training took the time to talk.
(The passport, our hero says Stanislav, but relatives and friends call him glory. - Approx. author.)
- Hi, Nastya! I am glad that was called.
- Tell us about your childhood, your family.
- I was born in the Latvian city of Saldus in a military family. When I was seven, we moved to the Murmansk region. This is a fabulous place: the polar day and night, the northern lights. There, in a military town, passed all conscious childhood. Engaged in hockey, he went with his father on a fishing trip. In the North, if you are not a fisherman, then the hunter. Memories from there the most joyful and warm. Then he moved to Yaroslavl, where I graduated from high school, went to university and actually still live.
- Where you went to study after school?
- I had a chemical-biological class, but did reason in the Polytechnic on engineering. If the calendar, then with half the grief I studied there for three years.
- Why?
- I never liked to cram. The school went on a favorite subject, and active participation in the events. The institute did not study was: deducted - restored. Until I finally gave up and went to work. He worked in the construction business until the accident.
- How did it happen?
- I was 27. Summer night riding his motorcycle, sober, quiet. He summed up the equipment - fell bike smote the spine.
There was no anger. Even depression He did not suffer. Just said to myself, "Man, this has already happened, there is no time machine - back not wind off. Let's get out! ". Of course, there were many difficulties: three months in the hospital, two operations, a long rehabilitation and a complete misunderstanding of where to go, what to do. But anger at the fate was not - then it should have been. After all, it is unknown, would be engaged in sports or I am now spent his evenings on the couch with a beer and a remote control in his hand.
Do what you can not!
- How could you still discovered the sport?
- It all started with the rehabilitation. Shortly after the accident, I found a good hospital near St. Petersburg. I then sit still and something really could not, and then immediately put into a walker, forced to deal with.
The next five years I have spent all the money, time and energy only to rehabilitation. Equipped home "gym": wall bars, bicycle, mats, exercise machines.
You wake up in the morning and think, 'We have to go deal with. " Or rather, go and try to do what you can not: to crawl, move your feet and so on ...
Two difficult psychologically and energy-intensive exercise per day.
Honestly, at times it was damn hard to make myself: better in bed, you can watch TV or on the Internet to climb. But when I caught myself thinking that I am looking for excuses, trying to wriggle out of a workout, conscience just ate me up inside: "You're a wimp! You gave up!". Samoedstvo taught me discipline. Therefore, when I started to play sports professionally, I had no problems with any self-disciplineNor motivation.
- Tell me, you did not have a mental trap: "A little work-out and stand on their feet. Then you can move on to other tasks, but in the meantime - practice, practice and more time training "?
- I Was. Two years into my head is spinning only one thought: "Now more work out and get up, still a little bit, even half a year ..." I think that all wheelchairs pass through it. But there comes a point when you stop to get stuck, you know that time is running out and you need to live on.
To me this realization came about five years old when I arrived in Moscow rehabilitation center "Overcoming" and saw dozens of children who live an active, engaged in sports, creativity, benefit society.
I met there with Sergei Semakin. He taught me how to press the bar, took over the Moscow championship in powerlifting. Returning home, I clearly understood that I wanted to play sports.
- and immediately I went to the gym? :)
- immediately began to search for, where and with whom to engage. We needed a coach: his own pancakes is not shed, the information vacuum one literature and videos are not Completed. I did not know whether the trains in Yaroslavl anyone wheelchairs. But the desire was tremendous! For a single day did not stop the search.
Once I heard about Lena Savelevoj - athlete, compatriot, also in a wheelchair. Contacted her through social networks, she spoke with the coach, and after a while began to travel, to do.
By Powerlifting joined more and athletics. We with Lena offered to try yourself in this sport, as in he was not represented by anyone. Tried - I loved it. Of the achievements so far in the Russian championship silver.
- What is now a priority: powerlifting or athletics?
- Equivalent. Exercise every day: Monday, Wednesday, Friday - powerlifting, rest of the time - lifting. With pleasure food and the one and the other training.
- A paravorkaut when? Tell me what this is all for sending it?
- "street workout" is translated as "training". The prefix "para", respectively, mean that it is training for people with physical features. The trick is that the classes are held in the open air, where everyone can come. It's free. No schedules, no coach who would control you and force. There is only you and your desire. You'll be able to overcome the force of gravity to the sofa or not?
In addition, the platform for street workout - a zone without stereotypes. They do there and the guys with physical features, and healthy. And each driven by an interest to understand what you can? Just pootzhimatsya, popodtyagivatsya, pass on horizontal bars, or come up with any element that had never done before?
But paravorkaut for me - it's more a social project than sports. My friends and I agreed thinking how important it is to involve people with disabilities in mass sports, and organized the project "ParaVorkaut»(ParaWorkout). We spent the summer training at Luzhniki Stadium, in winter looking room. We want to create a Federation paravorkauta.
The goal - to get people out of their homes and to motivate. Not necessarily on the sport. Just to persons with disabilities come to the gym, I saw all this dvizhuhu and want to change something in their lives. Looking at the activity of others, begin to look for their own motivation.
- Hey, what originally was your motivation? With discipline everything is clear: you have trained myself to it. But how did such a fierce desire to play sports?
- I realized that the sport - it's my chance to break out in people. The prospect of sitting at home typing on a computer, I do not relish. Therefore, initially catalyzed the search for his place in life.
Sport has become a springboard for me and has improved the quality of life. I felt it almost immediately: better internal organs work better feel, not sick.
My sporting ambitions have been exhausted: I want to get to the World Cup, I want to at the Paralympics (both of my kind - Olympic). But in parallel with these goals, new - social.
Stay in the... operator!
- Tell me where your social activity began?
- On the forums. First there was the "Seliger". He invited us to Ksenia Bezuglova. It was a bit scary to go somewhere, to live in tents. But the organization did not let us down, and it was very interesting.
This year, the boys of paravorkautu attended the forum "Territory of meanings." We had a change of non-profit organizations (NPOs). We received a lot of useful information, the right dating. It was clear where to go, how to achieve their goals.
Just recently, we were on the forum "Community". It is organized by the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation. First passed the regional stage, and then the final forum in Moscow.
- This is where you won 'I - citizen "?
- Yes, this is the prize founded by the Public Chamber, which is awarded to authors of the best social projects in the country. There are 12 nominations. I said into the category of "healthy lifestyle" ...
- Stated? You're not alone?
- No, guys have applied without my knowledge. I learned everything only when passed in the shortlist and won. :)
- loud title - "I - a citizen!" Do you think that in Russia there is civil society?
- I know that many do not understand what the Public Chamber, why do we need NGOs, but this is not even a social business. I did not understand, until all of these forums are not started to communicate with people who are not for money, not for the power, but purely because of their internal representations of good and evil realize completely crazy projects. Someone opened a hospice and realizes dreams of terminally ill children, someone to help homeless animals, someone organized volunteer movement.
Yes, civil society activists and their followers until not so much. But if nothing is done, then there will be more stagnant. Therefore, to answer your question, to paraphrase a famous phrase: "How to create a civil society? Yes way! Stay operators!!! ".
The easiest way to sit on the couch with a beer and TV remote control in hand and think: "From me nothing depends, I will not change anything."
But if my community initiative will make happy at least ten people and they want to do paravorkautom or something else, it would be cool. And if these ten people will pass the baton to ten more people - will be awesome cool!
To each his own
- What do you do other than sports and social work, keen on?
- Since childhood fascination with hockey left. For Yaroslavl is more than a sport: city loves its "Locomotive". It's a passion that forces to experience and empathize.
- You're a lucky man?
- Absolutely! Above the gates of Buchenwald it was written: "To each his own." That is happiness precisely at everyone. To some bread to eat and water to drink - is happiness, and for someone yacht for 200 million - a dubious joy.
For me, happiness - this inner harmony. I think I have achieved it.
- What dreams Stanislav Burakou?
- I distinguish between dreams and goals. A dream - it's something big, but also feasible. Agree, it is pointless to dream of a pink unicorn. Therefore, my dream now - it is a family and children.
- Slava, our project is called "No excuses." How you interpret this phrase?
- people justify themselves before him. During his laziness for its weakness. Therefore, we must be honest with yourself, and then do not have to make excuses. In the end, this is just your life. There are relatives, friends, that at it one way or another affect, but they will not be able for you to find the motivation and tear ass on the couch.
- Finally covet anything Layfhakera readers, so they tore ass off the couch.
The life of every person - whether healthy or in a wheelchair - is overcome. Make an effort to overcome himself. Each new victory - albeit small - is a step from the couch to the life that you deserve!
- Beautiful words! Thank you, Stanislav!
- Thank you for your project! :)
