REVIEW: "Draw every day" - a creative kick for everyone
Books / / December 19, 2019
Before reading this book, I was skeptical. My career as an artist began and ended at school when mom made me homework on painting and drawing, and the teacher with a sorrowful sigh accepted them. That's why I thought that the book Natalie Rutkowski, maybe good, but certainly not for me.
Am I wrong? Yes.
Natalie Rutkowski
Designer and illustrator. Born in 1977 in the Caucasus, in the family of Russian Germans who now lives in Oberhausen (Germany). He received his first education in Russia on technical specialty. With the move to Germany he has decided not to make a career in IT, and realized her childhood dream - trained as a graphic designer and illustrator in Dortmund. She currently works as a graphic designer in the company Opta Data Group (Essen, Germany), as well as a freelance illustrator for a number of other companies and publishers.
365
The whole book is based on an experiment Natalie called "365". The essence of the experiment is that she decided to paint every day for one small picture. What for? In order to prove to herself and to others, that the expectation of inspiration - is a fool's errand, and do not need to sit and wait, and go and do.
Despite his meager experience, I have never been a supporter of the theory of inspiration. Not once noticed that when you start to do something, even if you do not want and can not, in the process still starts to get something. And Natalie, but her experiment very clearly and in practice has shown that this theory is correct.
Each page of the book contains drawings, and each one better than the last. In addition to the drawings, Natalie also shares his thoughts, which will be very useful to representatives of the creative and design professionals.
Describe the events of the day right on the pages of a notebook. When you have time, you sit down and zarisuete what you have written. Just do take notes on sheets that you have seen and would like to sketch, even with your best photos.
Natalie also said that nothing prevents you to do the same project. Moreover, it is such a project would be the best proof to myself that inspiration can be expected. You can take as a basis the author or come up with your own. That's what she advises to do:
- Think about your work format.
- Start small.
- Raschertite page of the notebook to seven bands - this will be your preparation for a miniature sketches from life or layout for comics.
- Experiment.
You can come up with dozens of topics: sketches learned foreign words (to the end of the year your vocabulary will replenish 365 words), collages of how every day is changing the way you go to work, or sketches of people who have surround. Every day you will leave no more than 20-30 minutes. Agree detail.
Tips for creative people
The book is interesting not only by experiment, but also the advice that Natalie gives creative people. First of all, do not be afraid to show their work. It is not necessary to bring everything up to perfectionism. Thus you will learn to listen to criticism, and this skill is also very important.
Enjoy the process! There are days when you just do not want to draw / create / work. I do not want? Pause, do not prove to yourself that you can do without stopping.
Go to the event and interested in the work of their colleagues. Do you think only your brilliant work, and all the rest is only a pimple on the body art? Well, perhaps you're right, and worth little to reconsider its position. Creativity of others - is a great source for your inspiration.
Some want to take their work, crumple, throw it away and will never let them see. Do not succumb to this temptation. Once again - turn the inner perfectionist and save even terrible work. Perhaps in the future you will find in them something special.
conclusion
The book is not so much the text, and if I continue in the same vein, just retell its content. However, that's what I liked the most. Despite the fact that the text in the book really is not that much, his every line is impregnated with useful information, not only for artists but also for people of all creative professions.
In "Draw every day," you will find tips on how to overcome the lack of inspiration, how to approach the experiment "365", and finally, you will understand how to do, even if you thought that you have about this We know!
