August 5 this year, the US Patent Office (US Patent & Trademark Office) published details of a new patent application, provided by Apple. This time the Cupertino are working on an interesting solution and intends to patent the Smart Bicycle System technology. Its essence will be the iPhone / iPod connectivity to your bike (or any other vehicle) to control various parameters such as speed, route, or applied force and to exchange these data with other members of the group (if the user is traveling or playing sports in company). In fact, it is an analogue of Nike + iPod, but only for cyclists, not runners.
Smart Bicycle System should include in itself a bicycle, its built-in sensors and sensors for the measurement of indicators, display mounted on a vehicle, and an electronic device - iPhone or iPod.
Sensors, introduced in the system, can be quite varied - depending on what the user wants to control. It integrates the voltage meter, a magnetic sensor, photoelectric sensor, a microphone, a heart rate monitor, measuring accelerations, GPS and other sensors.
As a result, thanks to the built-in sensor system is able to calculate all applicable transportation and passenger power speed, voltage level or the ongoing efforts of the person, its location, as well as many others indicators.
Also in these conditions it is possible to define or even to reconcile with the other members of the team route, receive instructions or characteristics of the road (which are implemented using geotagging). The resulting data will be displayed on the mobile device and stored in a suitable program. Their users will share real-time, or publish and make available to interested parties later.
In the future, and subject to the patent above described system and software can be adapted for other vehicles.
