Markdown: new text editor for OS X and iOS

Working with Text - this is probably the most common problem that people do on their computers. Text editors came with the invention of the first computer, and has since come a long way of development. Now the Mac App Store there is a great variety of functional and user-friendly editors for all tastes. However, the newcomers among them appear quite often. Recently, walking through the App Store, I found an interesting application - Markdown, which has versions for iPhone and iPad. With enough functionality (hotkeys, focus mode) Markdown definitely deserves attention. Well, let's see if this is the case.
* * *
Being an OS X application, Markdown's also has an iOS version that will be very useful for people who always write, where they catch up with the muse. The very process of writing, by the way, is quite nice. This is facilitated by a quiet and pleasant interface design. The developer is positioning Markdown as "beautiful and effective editor." Here is his quote from the description of the application in the App Store:
«Markdown designed to make writing texts more pleasant. It has all the necessary tools for this: hot keys, thumbs, focus mode, word count, syntax highlighting and more. "
first look
As the name implies, Markdown markup has the support of the same name. For a minimum of formatting that is enough, but a great writer is not required.
Actually, at first glance it seems that Markdown is a copy of iA Writer. Starting from the icon, which is very reminiscent of iA Writer icon and ending with the design and application type. This can partly be explained by the fact that the design due to its minimalist, like other "pisatelskie" editors to focus, however - that is what it is.
Synchronization
Synchronization, which implies the existence of versions for both operating systems, there is also working fine. This process uses iCloud, which is much more convenient as opposed to other "non native" cloud services. Put a plus.
modes
In addition to the normal operating mode, in Markdown has a focus mode when you concentrate on the current paragraph (a familiar feature, especially Writer'ovdam iA), and the rest of the text is obscured.
And in addition to the focus mode, there is a so-called preview mode (preview). You can see that he like in the screenshot above. The additional panel text box looks more downed by reducing the font and spacing. Can be independently to scroll both panels. The only thing I do not understand - this is why you can not edit the text in this mode. It would be quite logical and convenient.
shortcuts
Hotkeys, as promised by developers in application there. They initiate the startup mode and a variety of options available from the menu.
settings
Settings, as such, the application completely absent, and it is unpleasant. For example I do not have the ability to change font size (very much it is large). Also would not prevent the choice of dark themes - for night workers.
Price
About the price. Application for OS X for free, and for the iOS-version need to pay $ 4.99. A bit of a strange position, usually developers do the opposite and take money for OS X application, offering for iOS in the appendage. But let's not blame them for that - we did even better;)

In fact, in the niche of a text editor with the writer's bias is difficult to come up with something new. There is a gentleman's set of features, the presence of which is a common practice (marking, focus mode, the counters, synchronization). In Markdown they prisutvuyut, so it is not much different from their counterparts.
That is, if you choose you should be guided by the price and the overall impression. Markdown Personally I did not like, I am a fan of Byword (as you can see from the screenshots of my articles) and hold my. But if you have not bought a word processor - you can safely consider Markdown as a contender. If you already have or iAWriter byword - nothing new in Markdown you for yourselves do not open.
