Linux-box - a media center without the cost
Technologies / / December 19, 2019
Increasingly, the PC becomes a real entertainment center in the home. And if earlier it was the game or video and music directly on your monitor and headphones, now in business is increasingly heavy artillery in the form of receivers and panels of 32 "and above. Damien Oh shared his ideas on the use of Linux for your enjoyment.
XBMC
Efforts programmers undergoing this miracle on Linux, Windows and Mac OS admirable. This player not only looks extremely professional, he also has a fantastic opportunity to expand functionality with scripts. The source of media content can be both LAN and uPnP devices (including other media centers), as well as a large network.
Entertainer
This system is designed for distribution with Gnome and XFce, and allows you to view your movies and listen to music, and read RSS feeds and weather forecasts. However, it is quite normal. Damien complains only not particularly easy installation and configuration. But for Linux-based fighters it will not be an obstacle, I think.
Elisa
This media center like XBMC runs not only on Linux but also on other systems. A distinctive feature is the tight integration with the Web, allowing you to watch photos from Flickr, SSHOUTcast listen and watch Youtube.
MythTV
The program began as a DVR, but now has evolved into a complete solution for home entertainment. I'm not ready to tell which came first - the popularity of, or distributions, including default the system, or even entirely dedicated to her, like Mythbuntu, KnoppMyth and Mythdora.
Freevo
It could more accurately be called the manager of media content, although if you have a TV tuner card, the program can easily serve to record programs on a schedule. But the availability of plug-ins allows the system to expand and even lets you play games with consoles emulator.
GeeXboX
It is a distribution related to playback of various formats auditor and video files. They can be anywhere - on CD / DVD, hard drive or network. Distribution takes 9 MB, and can even run on a machine without a hard drive. This is an excellent way to recycle their old computer.
List presented Damian, certainly not complete, and I ask you to share your media options centers on the basis of Linux - it's a wonderful way to use an old computer when you upgrade.
