Contacts application existed in OS X since nezapyamatnyh times (although in the past the program was called differently - «Address Book»). Despite the fact that new features have been added in the latest version of the desktop operating system Contacts.app, I doubt that our readers have noticed them at all - many either do not use the address book on the computer (I confess that I myself am one of them), or simply continue to use the program as accustomed earlier.
Came to an end the prolonged weekend and, as usual, interesting news from the blogosphere Apple virtually none. We thought it was the right time to introduce chitataley with some useful tips for Contacts in OS X.
Hooking up a Twitter account
Integration with Twitter came along with the release of Mountain Lion, which went on sale this summer. However, the cooperation between Apple and microblogging service began much earlier, in the last year. As you remember, in October of 2011 entered the mobile operating system iOS 5, and with it, and built-in integration with Twitter. It then became possible to send your favorite pictures from Photos.app, shares links with followers of Safari.app etc. Integration with Twitter to add some social harmony, which was lacking operating system. Of course, one of the most important aspects was the introduction of Twitter in the address book of the mobile device.
On iOS, you can open the settings, go to the Twitter tab, then click «Update Contacts» and your device will update automatically all contacts in accordance with the e-mail addresses and nicknames Twitter, as well prisvoet to every man his avatar of service microblogging. Now you can do a similar thing in OS X.
- Open the «System Preferences».
- Go to the tab «Mail, Contacts & Calendars».
- Add your Twitter account if you have not done.
- Click on the button «Update Contacts ...» and wait until the process is complete.
- If all goes well, the bottom of the window you will see a message: "Updated number contacts ".
- Start the Contacts application, and view multiple contacts to ensure the proper registration of data.
Now you can open any terminal (referring to Twitter) and write it through the service, or view the latest posts. Quite convenient, is not it?

- Company: if the contact is some company, enter the name. In addition, it is possible to swap the fields and Company Name. In this case, the contact will be displayed as a company rather than as a person.
- phone: This field is used to enter a contact phone number. When you click it, you will see a pop-up menu with several options: display the number of the full width screen, send an iMessage, FaceTime call, and the possibility of third-party applications (Shype, Adium and etc).
- email: As the name implies, you can add the e-mail contact. You can change the type of mail - work, personal, or add your own. Presented the following functions: send mail using the default application, call FaceTime, iMessage send, send a person your business card or start the search in the e-mail address Spotlight.
- Home Page: if a person has their own website or blog, you can add it in this field.
- Instant Messaging: enter yuzerneym contact in the appropriate service from the list: AIM, Facebook (short URL), Gadu-Gadu, Google Talk, ICQ, Jabber, MSN, QQ, Skype or Yahoo. Then you can click on that user will navigate and to communicate in your favorite IM-client.
- Social Networks: you can add an account from Facebook, Flickr, LinkedIn, MySpace, Sina Weibo or Twitter. It should be noted that it is necessary to enter the account name, rather than a link. In the latter case, this function will be to act as a field Home Page - just redirect you to the browser.
- Physical Address: if you know the actual address of the location of your contacts, you can add it to your address book. If you want to change the format of the input data, press Change Address Format and in the list, choose your country (by the way, the default format can be changed in the Contacts preferences).
- Notes: In this field you can enter whatever you like. You can, for example, to write the date of the first meeting with the contact or culinary preferences (if you're going to go to dinner together).
Thus, we became acquainted with the basic types of contact information. Now you may want to explore additional fields (included in the menu Cards):
- Phonetic First / Last Name: if in your address book, there are foreigners (Asians, for example), you can enter the transcription of name / last name in Latin letters contact.
- Prefix, Middle Name, Suffix, Nickname, and Maiden Name: to remember someone's maiden name? Simply use the field Maiden Name. In fact, there is presented a lot of different options, including the nickname of the person.
- Job Title and Department: a moment before I is mentioned, it is possible to introduce the company, which employs a particular contact. In turn, this option allows you to specify the job title and the relevant department.
- Birthday and Date: you know too many people, huh? Of course, otherwise you would not be necessary to use the address book. I felt very comfortable that Contacts.app offers the opportunity to enter the date of birth of contacts, so you never forget to congratulate a colleague or friend. Here, by the way, you can use the same function for a wedding anniversary.
- Related Name: He knows it, and she knows the other guy, who is familiar with his mother. Anyway, for this purpose there is a special field. Enter here the name of a friend, family member, manager or janitor with his street.
If you really want to fill out as much information about your contacts, you can go to the Template Editor (Preferences> Template) And fine-tune all the proposed fields, or add your own. Of course, if something goes wrong, you can simply use the delete function.

After the severe shock of the volume of information that I have just given, I'm sure many would like an easy way to quickly find it among the payload data. Fortunately, OS X just works great built-in search function that possibility extends to the system address book.
Did you know that you can press the key phrase Command + Space and search for contacts? Well, now you know. Try to enter any name, and then move the mouse cursor over the corresponding item - a pop-up window will appear in front of you, which displays a summary of contact. To view all the data, just click on the window.

Okay, your brain a little rest on a part of Spotlight? Let us return to the longer boards. :)
Surely every one of our readers have their own account on the social network Twitter or Facebook. If you do not have an account in the above mentioned services (that I barely fit in my head), you can skip this tip.

I will never be able to convert them to the correct format for the address book of the operating system OS X. We'll have to carry everything by hand, reprinting each contact manually. "
Do not worry, there's a much easier way to transfer contacts to Contacts.app. To synchronize contacts OS X supports its own iCloud cloud technology (of course), as well as accounts with Facebook services, Microsoft Exchange, Gmail and Yahoo. In addition, it is possible to use the functions CardDAV, or LDAP over the menu Preferences> Accounts.

You can manually add photos to each contact, simply by clicking on an existing avatar. Want to put a picture of a parrot on contact your boss? You are welcome.
