Living and working in Thailand: an interview with the islander
Travels / / December 19, 2019
Moving to Thailand may be for you not only a pleasurable experience life in a different environment (frankly more pleasant environment), but also an opportunity to meet interesting people - both locals and foreigners, and compatriots. After leaving the city in which you live, you leave there, and most of your friends and acquaintances. It is therefore known abroad can and should be. Especially since it is so simple: "Hello, our common friend told me that you, too, are living on Koh Samui? I cook about human story, who lives and works in Thailand. I do not mind to meet? "
So I met with Vlad Levkutnikom, from Kiev, who came to Thailand 5 months ago and is going to stay here for a month and then go to learn Indonesian Bali. Vlad - web programmer. Currently he is working on freelancing over two foreign projects. Prior to arriving in Thailand had lived only a few months in Moscow, so that Samuel could be called the first long-term experience of Vlad life abroad.
How did you decide to go to Asia for half a year? What was the reason?
Rather was not the cause of a confluence of many circumstances. I had long wanted to move to warmer climes, and to live by the sea. Not so long ago switched to freelancing that allows me now to live and work without being attached to a particular place. Well, I have long wanted something radically change in your life. As soon as the supporters and my friend suggested to go here for the winter, I agreed without hesitation.
On what basis was chosen nation, why Thailand?
Last spring, with the filing of friends, I went with them to a small tour of Thailand and Cambodia. Before that trip I did not know anything about Asia, but since I already knew that I wanted to live here. Why Thailand? Because Thailand on most items of quality of life in front of the rest of Asia. Even Thailand - Land of Smiles. Apparently so.
Over what period did you begin to prepare for the trip? What were the difficulties in its organization?
The idea nurtured 4 months, and the real training began for 2 months. The organization did not have any problems. How to do a visa, what first steps on arrival to do - everybody knew it. Fortunate to have in our company there are people who can be found on the Internet any information of interest. Therefore, the overall picture of the move was clear. The main difficulty was in my head :) For a long time did not come with the humility of the fact that I'm going to get rid of unnecessary things, leave the rented apartment and leave for at least half a year in Asia.
Try searching for interesting flights by searching Aviasales, It is likely that you will immediately find the most attractive offers. The search is performed on all popular reservation systems at the same time!
What did you do in the first place, when he arrived in Thailand?
The first thing I breathed a strange but familiar smell of the Bangkok airport, well zachekinilsya. Just kidding :) Actually, at first had to be fidgety and posuetitsya about the property, of course. But when all was settled, and I was finally able to relax, I went and bought a guitar.
Where have you lived on the island and as the arrangement was held at the new location?
Since we were traveling for a long time, then we decided not to take any chances with finding accommodation through the internet (did not want to buy a pig in a poke), so rented a hotel for 3 days, who have dedicated independent search for housing. The task was not an easy one. Firstly, we arrived very much and find accommodation all in one place does not work, so eventually had to be divided into 2 groups. Secondly, it is very difficult, coming from the autumn of Ukraine in the heat of tropical Thailand, immediately plunge into the bustle of property search - here and acclimatization, and a million new experiences and a natural desire to relax, because we're here, on the tropical the island! In general, in search of our first house it took 4 days. It was a large two-storey house on the territory of the Resort in the south-east of the island (just south of Lamai Beach). The house is ideal for 5 people, and we immediately agreed, when they saw him. Especially not have to settle. The house was everything and more of what it may be necessary for life.
However, after 3 months, we had to move to a new home, because the 2 guys who lived with us, went home, and shoot has been expensive for the three a house. The second house we looked after even when searched first, so we had to settle only the nuances of his lease. This house is in the north-east of the island, just near the place where they live friends, with whom we were flying here. This house is the exact opposite of the first, except that the fact that a two-story, too. Very simple, a typical Thai shop-house with summer kitchen, and free applications in the form of beautiful sunsets and Big Buddha on the horizon.
How quickly you joined the job?
Probably the first week here, I did not do anything. But do not rest properly. I needed some time to recover. When the work appeared, I quickly returned to duty. But I'm in this plan is easy - I'm a freelancer and work always at a convenient time for me. And with breaks out to swim, jump in the pool or go for dinner, try a new Thai dish, work was doubly easier.
How does your work place and without which you can not do at work?
In this respect, nothing special. My workplace - this is my laptop, a comfortable desk and chair, and the Internet.
What is your normal working day on the island?
Typical day? Perhaps I have this not happen. Every day is different, and different events. But if you put together everything I do from time to time and to make it in one day, you get the following:
- I woke up at 8-9 am;
- little yoga classes to finally wake up;
- I walked to the sea - swam;
- a ride to the market for fresh vegetables and fruit for breakfast;
- some work, if there is a mood;
- I like the rope;
- I played guitar;
- We went with the guys on the beach;
- dinner! :)
- It can be a little more work until the heat;
- fever subsided - went to ride a skateboard;
- We got to the sunset;
- dark - evening gatherings, or "walking street", where you can walk, eat various local delicacies and live music.
However, so that all of this in one day, was probably a couple of times. Usually something laziness, that you do not want, there is no work or too much, the rain - not going anywhere, and so on. But the perfect weekday looks that way :)
Whether changed your way of life since moving to Thailand? Are there any new habit, occupation, daily rituals?
Yes, there is a good habit of eating a lot of fruit. Another developed a habit of a dip in the sea in the morning, but I'm afraid that it is just as lost as it had come, when I move to a place where there is no sea in 30 meters from the house. But I can say that in my head that something significant has changed since moving here.
Were there with you for the period of your life in Thailand some funny things? Were the unpleasant moments?
Very small things: a couple of times sick, got a couple of bruises (non-moped), but that is all.
What do you miss on the island? Are there things / people for whom do you miss?
People, of course, people - miss many. And that is not enough, so this is the place for walking: parks, squares or ordinary streets where you can walk in the shade of trees. Here somehow never accepted to go, even the sidewalks really is not on the island. That's what I really miss is straight.
Do you have any recommendations to people who want to move to Thailand?
Do not forget to stock up on a good remedy for mosquitoes! :)
But seriously (though about mosquitoes at least seriously), then you should not think that this is impossible. Many for some reason and think. If you want, then everything becomes possible. Weigh the pros and cons are well prepare, consider all the details and see how it all happens by itself, and you're already halfway to Thailand. Throw away from the head shots from the "Shocking Asia" films are a completely different world, not having anything to do with that. If you can imagine paradise as a place, then just add it to the left-hand traffic and get Thailand :) Good luck!
