It is believed that women talk more than men. A new study by the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology opens his eyes to communicate conversational skills and the level of testosterone.
You can often hear the phrase that women talk more than men. This fact is hard to reinforce research, especially given the fact that they are talking about reverse. According to well-known figures, both men and women utter about 16,000 words each day.
As a child, the girls begin to talk earlier than boys. Moreover, boys born with a high level of testosterone, begin to talk more later. This prompted researchers from the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology, to research and identify the relationship conversational skills from the levels of testosterone.
Similar studies were conducted in the past. However, they were limited by the respondents - a dose of testosterone, which they took, were too small and were in the area of uncertainty.
In the new study involved a group of 18 transgender men. Scientists scanned their brains to receiving large doses of testosterone and after. After treatment the level of gray matter in Broca's area and Wernicke's area, areas of the brain responsible for speech processing, decreased. At the same time the level of white matter that connects the two zones has increased.
Lanzenberger Rupert (Rupert Lanzenberger), a scientist involved in the study, believes that the namely reduction of gray matter level is responsible for the differences in how men talk and women. The study does not answer this question completely, but argues that the level of testosterone still has value.
