Continuing Articles about books and reading I would like to share a way of measuring books usefulness. I will try to tell you about how you can determine for yourself how much this or that book you read was good.
Of course, each has its own criteria for determining the "coolness" of books. Some like style, some are crazy about the pictures and illustrations (such as people like to make it a little more), while others appreciate the book so-called "aftertaste". However, all this is quite subjective and is not well suited to the evaluation of useful books (to whom I attribute the psychological, philosophical and books on self-development).
Such books are convenient to estimate the number of useful ideas and their relative density of the page.
Number of useful ideas count is very simple. When reading a book, you suddenly breaks into the invisible (or visible) smile, you know that you are impressed by the phrase or idea expressed by the author, you can safely put the book "+1". Put plyusadin can be right on the margins of the book (some folded pages at the same angle). To summarize, you can not only ideas, but generally all the places, events, examples and all-everything that made you interested. If you want to remember or quote that some of the book - it is an obvious "+1".
After you have read the entire book - count the plus sign. Their sum will be many useful ideas (Let's call this setting KPI).
Relative density of ideas - the ratio of the number of useful ideas (KPI) to the number of pages in the book. This parameter indicates the concentration of ideas. In other words, if in a book of 300 pages in all 30 useful ideas (one idea on each of 10 pages), and in the second - 70 ideas for 100 pages (almost one idea on a page), it is clear what the book abruptly and useful.
Try to determine the usefulness of the book in this way, and you'll quickly realize that all the books are different, and you can feel the difference. Incidentally, the same parameters can be used, e.g., for presentation at the conference (number of ideas per minute), blogs (number steep ideas on posts 100) and so on.
