1. In English, there is no category of gender
In Russian race is expressed by endings. But in English it is simply absent. There is no such thing as a kind of masculine, feminine and neuter.
But what about the "he" or "she," you ask? This is not a race, and only different words for representatives of male or female. And these pronouns can be used only in relation to people. For example:
- A girl - she.
- A boy - he.
- A cat - it.
- A window - it.
Roda no nouns or verbs or adjectives:
- A tall girl.
- A tall boy.
- A tall tree.
As we can see, the word tall does not change.
With this in mind, you remove one of the barriers in speaking and easy to use adjectives.
2. Defining words are always in front of the noun
All qualifying words (adjectives, possessive pronouns, numerals) are placed before the noun in the English language.
In French, for example, the adjective comes after the noun. And in Russian - anywhere: the "beautiful boy", and "beautiful boy", and "beautiful boy came into the store."
Remember the formula: which, whose, how many + noun.
For example:
- Interesting story - an interesting story.
- My family - my family.
- Three friends - three comrades.
3. In English there is the possessive case
If something belongs to somebody, in Russian language, this show case. In English, too, there is a special case, but in a slightly different form - possessive noun.
Russian | English |
moms machine | Mother's car |
boy toy | Boy's toy |
+ That someone (genitive) | Whose + 's + that (possessive) |
4. In English, there are articles
The grammatical category of English, you must first forgive, and then try to understand. It's not just little phrases that make it difficult for us grammar, but the whole of the speech, which can not be ignored.
Of articles are very few: a certain and uncertain. And indefinite article has two forms:
- a - put, if the next word begins with a consonant;
- an - put, if the next word begins with a vowel sound.
The indefinite article is descended from the Old English word one, and under the influence of the reduction was reduced to a single letter. But the value has not changed. So, if before the noun can be mentally substitute "a certain" that the English should stand this article.
The definite article originated from the English pronoun this (this one), and that (one) and also under the influence of the reduction declined.
If you can put in front of the noun "this" or "that", in English, you can safely put the article the.
For example:
- There is a book on the table. - On the table (one kind of) book.
- The book on the table is very interesting. - (This is) a book on the table very interesting.
Knowing this, you remove 90% of difficulties. The remaining 10% have to remember.
5. English verb time answers to two questions: "When?" and "What?"
Let's start with the statistics: 32 temporary structures can count in English, 12 times is supposed to classic study of grammar, but only nine need to know to feel confident in the country under study language. Their worth and learn to automatism.
While the English verb - it is more complex phenomenon than the Russian. It expresses where the action took place, and from this point of view as well as in Russian, there are currently (Present), past (Past) and the future (Future).
Also, while the English verb emphasizes what was the action: simple - Simple (normal, daily), a long - Continuous (required certain period of time or emphasizes the process of implementing the action), perfect - Perfect (it has already happened or should happen to some point).
The combination of the characteristics of "When?" And "What?" And gives the British times. To form connect times so-called auxiliaries. I remember them very easy to shape the times as follows.
When / a | Simple | Continuous | Perfect |
Present |
V1; he, she, it Vs (Do, does) I play / He plays |
Am Is Ving Are He is playing |
Have V3 / ed Has He has played |
Past |
V2 / ed; (Did) He played |
Was Were Ving He was playing |
Had V3 / ed He had played |
Future | Will V He will play |
Will be Ving He will be playing |
Will have V3 / ed He will have played |
* V (verb) - verb.
6. In English the word order determines the meaning of
English belongs to the group of analytic languages, that is, with the use of special tools (auxiliary verbs, auxiliary words, a specific word order) to link words in a sentence. The Russian language is changing the word in English is the meaning of word order is passed or additional forms.
For example:
- The hunter killed the bear.
- Bear killed a hunter.
- He killed a bear hunter.
- Hunter killed a bear.
No matter how we rearranged words in a sentence, the meaning does not change. We know who killed whom, at the expense of the case endings (who? - hunter, who? - bear).
But this trick will not work with the English language. The hunter killed the bear. If we interchange the words in the sentence, then the meaning will change: there will be dead hunter, not a bear.
Strict word order is very important. Remember this chart and use it.
How to use this knowledge in learning English
1. Treat grammar as mathematical formulas
Secure consciousness generally as a circuit or formula (drawing skill memory cards It will greatly help in this) and just substitute different words.
2. In the study of the rules of accent attention to the differences between English and Russian
Ask yourself the question: "How is it in Russian?". If there is a similarity, you will not experience the discomfort of remembering, and if there are differences, you have to concentrate better. Compare and contrast - a great way to commit the new information.
3. Tunable Russian proposals in the English style
Make an offer on Russian in accordance with the rules of the English language and then translated.
Mom soap frame. → Who + verb (past long) + what + articles before nouns. → The mother was washing the window.
And most importantly, remember: Russian, mastered the English language, much more than the English-speaking Russian. Repeat it like a mantra as soon discouraged. :)
