Sport And Fitness / / December 19, 2019
Heavy loads are always taking a toll on our bodies. Not for nothing do they say that in order to be healthy, you need to play sports as a hobby, but not professionally. Professional sports, if you hope to be in the first tier, rather than sit on the bench of spare - it's always a great risk of injury. Fans who have set themselves the target equal to the professional, in addition to the risk of medals for participation in the same ultramarathon or Ironman full earn health problems. Therefore, under a heavy load during the preparation for this competition you need to follow safety precautions. Together with our internal organs are taking the brunt of our teeth. As a result, erosion of the teeth can occur in many athletes.
Why is there such a problem?
Reason № 1. Too much sugar in the sports food
Small sips of sugary sports drinks have a beneficial effect on our productivity, increasing the amount needed by our muscles glycogen, but for that amount of sugar teeth can hardly be called helpful. Consumption of sugar increases the amount of bacteria that produce acid, which in turn increases your chances of getting a series of dental problems. In addition, these same sports drinks, besides sugar, contain citric or phosphoric acid, which destroys tooth enamel. Enamel, integrity has been violated, it becomes more susceptible to the accumulation of bacteria, which ultimately can lead to a variety of problems: stain, gingivitis, holes, inflammation, periodontitis and others.
However, despite all of the above troubles, a high content of sugar in sports drinks is not the main problem.
Reason № 2. Heavy breathing through the mouth
During rapid breathing mouth is too dry, and the lack of saliva creates an ideal environment for the prosperity of harmful bacteria.
In 2014, a study was conducted, published in The Scandinavian Journal of Sports Medicine, during which was observed for the state of two groups of teeth: 35 athletes and 35 ordinary people (control Group). The experiment condition enamel athletes was worse than people in the control group. In track and field athletes were observed less intense salivation and increasing pH levels during workouts. Saliva has a protective function, and the longer and more intense the workout, the land becomes a mouth, and the higher the pH. The longer the training, the more dental problems can be earned.
All of the above does not mean that you can not hard to prepare for difficult competition. Just you need to know how to avoid all these problems.
Ways to deal with the problem
- Daily brushing teeth and flossing.
- Obligatory visits to the dentist 2-3 times a year.
- Consult a doctor immediately after the detection of dental problems or the appearance of unpleasant symptoms.
- Try to reduce the amount of consumed sports drinks, and other foods with a high sugar content. Be sure to rinse your mouth after eating foods with sugar. Do not abuse the special sports drinks and foods, be sure to use them only in cases where it is really necessary (if the training lasts longer than an hour). During exercise lasting up to one hour you can do with plain water.
- Learn to breathe through the nose. Breathing through the nose increases the production of nitric oxide, which in turn increases the absorption of oxygen your lungs, kills bacteria, viruses and other microbes.
Also do not forget about the balanced diet that will give your body all the necessary elements in order to enable you to run long and fast. ;)
