Chronic stress can kill you in the literal sense of the word. How to keep calm during prolonged crises, when you are ready to break?
In 1983, cardiologist Robert Elliott began his article on dealing with stress in the following words: "Rule number 1: do not kill for the sake of minor cases. Rule number 2: All your work matters - small ".
Although we used to take the stress something negative, not just the stress is not. Recent studies Elizabeth Kirby, postdoctoral Berkeley, have shown that short-term acute stress actually goes in our favor. During the study, Kirby found that short-term stress causes the brain of experimental rats the development of new nerve cells, which improves their mental abilities. Thus, short-term stress keeps our mind sharp and to better adapt to new situations.
On the other hand, the effects of chronic stress showed negative results. The same studies have shown that prolonged stress lowers the production of new neurons in the hippocampus, in the area of the brain responsible for memory, thereby impairing our ability to remember. Also proved the damage to the body, leading to the development of chronic completeness, heart disease and depression.
Real workaholic can only look for methods to deal with your stress levels. Below are 5 ways, one of which may be suitable to you.
1. Focus on the positive side and develop a sense of self-worth
Most often little we can control what happens to us, but we can completely control what we think about it. People who are able to cope with stress, respectively, focus their outlook on things that are going well, regardless of the consequences. Focus on the positive allows them to avoid the overload of stress and not feel the pressure of events and points of view, over which they have no control. Successful people do not spend a lot of time and energy thinking about what others think of them. They have a strong sense of self-esteem, their destination, they know what to strive for in life. They know that peace of mind depend on them, and this gives them an opportunity to accelerate and grow.
2. Develop a sense of gratitude
In addition to the positive mood, people can withstand constant pressure, always know the value of small pleasures for which they thank a life. This may be a personal diary thanked, and a quote on the wall that recalls the good moments. Successful people always find reasons for gratitude and use that feeling when stress bore down upon them with new strength.
3. Find a way to escape and recharge
Technology have accustomed us to the mistaken idea that we need to be available 24/7. Successful people use technology, but do not become slaves to them, from time to time disconnecting on the Web and making a break to replenish forces. They keep the calendar time and place to engage in hobbies that do not have nothing to do with the work that they are carefully nurtured. Other people know this and respect their free time. People who have achieved success, have many diverse skills, interests, hobbies, and third-party projects, they passionately engaged and that distract them from the constant daily stress at work place.
4. Develop communication skills
Successful people never put all your eggs in one basket. Each of them has an excellent network of contacts and tiesOn which they can rely in case of need. Multifaceted personality have a strong family, friendships and professional relationships, to which they can access in times of trouble. They actively help others and can expect on reciprocal support. Knowledge of such a "support group" gives them a sense of security and adds confidence to meet the challenges that others do not seem on the shoulder.
5. Learn to see the long-term
Think of a stressful situation, which happened one, five or even ten years ago. Do you remember how hard it was then? And how it looks today? Remember the phrase, "And this too shall pass"? So, in a difficult situation, try to think about it as it will look in a year or five, when its consequences are resolved and forgotten. Goals and aspirations help us mentally to look far ahead, beyond the horizon of current events, thus overcoming their pressure, memory that in any difficult situations we found ourselves and how we overcame them, calms us today and helps manage stress in difficult time.
