A group of scientists from Harvard I learned a new way to adjust the DNA. Biologists have discovered a method which is called "primed editing" - it can be used to get rid of 89% of harmful mutations that are inherited.
The essence of the method is that it can be used to replace portions of genetic mutations in the healthy fragments. Moreover, the replacement may be a point, and longer.
The researchers tested the new technique on different types of human cells and spent about 175 edits. It was found that the probability of error is 1-10%, and the success rate - 20-50%. This means that primed editing - a more accurate and reliable method than the one used today - CRISPR / Cas9.
It will now be possible to exclude the risk of dangerous diseases in children, which are transmitted to them from their parents. So, scientists have learned to get rid of the gene transmitting sickle cell anemia, cystic fibrosis, and Tay-Sachs disease.
