Scottish organization SHAAP, which informs people about effects of alcohol on the body, published a new report. In it distinguish the relationship between alcohol consumption and the appearance of cancer, as well as provide advice on how to protect themselves.
In the category of overuse include anything that is more than 21 standard units of alcohol per week. This 7 large glasses wine or 11 cans beer medium strength. The risk of cancer of the lips, pharynx, mouth, larynx and esophagus increases already at the use of 5 units per week.
At the same time drinking smokers 30 times more at risk. The document contains just two reasons for this phenomenon.
Firstly, the alcohol has a negative impact on the skin in the oral cavity, due to which during smoking carcinogens better absorbed. Secondly, cigarette smoke contains formaldehyde - toxic compound similar to acetaldehyde, which is released during the decay of alcohol. Together, these substances cause a significant harm to the protective system of the body, rather than individually.
