Mascara brush, branch or nail can injure the surface of the eye, and you will feel a strong burning sensation and discomfort or feel anything if the scratch is shallow. Therefore it is better to be safe and sound technician. The doctor will prescribe drops or ointment, which will not allow to develop infection and form scars.
If the left eye foreign body, in no case do not rub your eyelids. The subject may scratch the mucosa and cause serious complications.
Do not work with the eyes with unwashed hands. Do not wash the mucous dirty water. Do not use tweezers, toothpicks or any other solid objects: they can easily injure the delicate tissue.
Do not try to remove the object, which is wounded surface eyes and it is not washed off with water. In this situation, you should immediately consult a doctor.
Do not wash the eyes, if you are in contact lenses. First of all, remove them.
What to do if exposed to a chemically active substance in the eye
Wash your hands thoroughly. Make sure that they are not left traces of soap or caught in the eye of matter.
Remove and discard the lens. The lens can absorb the substance and irritate the eye surface.
Flush eyes with water for 15-30 minutes. If discomfort remains, go to the doctor. In any case, bring a sample of the substance that gets into your eyes.
If the conjunctiva appeared glue, do not try to remove it yourself: it should only deal with an ophthalmologist. Rinse eyes and go for it.
What if a foreign body in your eye
Wash your hands thoroughly. Examine the mucous eyes to find a foreign body.
Not sharp objects (eyelashes, hair, cosmetics particles) can be removed with a cotton swab moistened with water. If hair is light and you can not find it, rinse the eye.
Sharp objects (chips, glass, coarse sand) is better not to touch it, as they may scratch the eye tissue and lead to serious complications up to loss of vision. Gently pull the upper eyelid and eye wash water. You can use this for eye bath, ordinary glass or bottle.
If the object is not washed away or after removal was uncomfortable, cover or gently tie the eye with gauze and immediately contact the nearest ophthalmologist or call an ambulance. Under no circumstances should you exert pressure on the eye.
Determine what your eyes are normal, can only physician. So even if you manage to remove the foreign body, consult with an ophthalmologist.
How to get to the doctor
If you can see and walk, go to the nearest ophthalmologist. Wear sunglasses or cover the eyes with gauze, take your passport and insurance policy.
In case of emergency (injuries, wounds, including chemical and thermal burns, eye foreign body, sudden pain, sudden decrease or loss of vision) you will jump the queue. No need not take coupons.
If your eyes are watering, greatly hurt, or do you see the world only partially, call an ambulance.
How to maintain eye health
- Wear protective goggles when working with stone, wood, metal, sand, reagents, car battery and so on.
- Keep jars and tubes with chemicals close to the eyes.
- Wear gloves when using detergents, and then wash your hands with soap: so you shall stretch chemistry on mucous membranes. Keep all tools out of reach of children.
- check vision once a year, and under unfavorable working conditions - twice a year.
