A group of Japanese scientists led by Hashimoto Koske managed to hold the first study "Super-centenarians" - people 110 years or older. It has revealed a possible reason for their longevity - increased cellular immunity.
According to the census of the population of Japan in 2015, the country counted 61 763 person aged 100 years or older - but only 146 of them were older than 110. Because people who have overcome stodesyatiletny threshold, so rare, study them extremely difficult. Researchers have enlisted the support of seven centenarians and the control group of five people aged 50-80 years and focused on blood tests because they are easier to collect all.
It turned out that all centenarians exceeded the level of CD4 T-cells. They stand out among their kind: if the majority of T-lymphocytes acts as a "commander", directing the activity of other cells, CD4 cytotoxic - that is, able to independently attack and destroy harmful cells.
If the control group content of CD4 is approximately 2.8% of all T-cells, then it centenarians increased to an average of 25% - i.e., almost 10 times. This explains why the majority of centenarians is different good health throughout life.
Nevertheless, scientists recognize that the sample is too small, and hope to continue their studies. Perhaps in the future it will be able to create a treatment that allows prolong life, but to talk about it is too early.
