Books / / December 19, 2019
An ambitious attempt to explain how mankind has evolved and our consciousness, what it all means and what awaits us in the future.
Ken Wilber's book from 2006 published in Russian at least five times. In 2019 a new edition, supplemented by an afterword in which the author talks with the director of "The Matrix" Lana Wachowski. The whole book is constructed in the form of a dialogue: Wilbur asks a question, and then he himself answers it. And these questions are meant to finally find a single explanation for what happened and is happening still on Earth and in the universe.
The author acts as a philosopher who seeks to combine discoveries and findings of various spheres of activity in the overall picture in order to trace the development of humanity and its thought. In the book he touches the opening of cosmology, physics, Psychology and even theology, interweaving them into a tight ball. He sees history not as a stage on which humanity has climbed, and as a continuous process.
It begins with a space and trying to understand how the order came out of chaos. Then there is a part dedicated to consciousness and its development. The author answers the questions about how the man came from primitive to advanced farming technology, which past actions have led to the current problems and why there are "male" and "female" role. And express their views on how to strike a balance between the desire for a comfortable life and a desire to care for the environment.
Wilber could not ignore the role of religion in human life. The author wonders how and why psychotherapists replaced the priests, people often seek the advice of a psychologist, and trust them their secrets, even before the church was used for this purpose.
At the end of the book the author talks about the future of what we will experience and what makes sense to everything that happens in the universe.
As a result, the product of Wilber - quite a bold experiment, which affects every aspect of life. And as the author believes that everything is interconnected in the world, then share it on some parts would be to contradict their own convictions. "A Brief History of Everything" - a philosophical treatise, which leaves the choice to the reader. He can accept the point of view of the author and may not agree with it and stick with counterarguments.
